This is one of if not my favorite film of all time and I was shocked to see it remade. of course i have not watched the remake becasue the original is perfect. Mads cannot be replicated neither can the daughter or the exquisite cinematography. How weird that someone thought they could do better. This film is so touching and subtle You will love it. The Danes have an innate capacity for nuanced drama. I really recommend you watching this film; it is beautiful visually and emotionally gripping. If you don't cry, you may not have the capacity for empathy-it's that good.

Very interesting to read. I am Danish myself, so seeing someone foreign, especially an American, like a Danish film puzzles me. I have not watched this one yet, but Mads Mikkelsen is absolutely great. If you want more with him, I quite liked "A Royal Affair". I'll definitely watch "After the Wedding", or as we would say natively, "Efter brylluppet", in a near future. :)

Mr. Gable,
I didn't know you were Danish. But as someone who is from the US, I love quite a few Danish films (especially if Mads is in it, although there are some of his movies I haven't seen yet.):
A Royal Affair
Another Round
The Hunt
Festen
Babette's Feast
The Guilty
Reptilicus
Smilla's Sense of Snow

Mr. and everything. Thank you for the addressing, sir/miss. :)
It's funny you watched "The Hunt" because it really felt divisive to me. A very provoking film which is still very relevant today. Since you Like Mads, he rose to stardom in "Pusher" from 1996. I can also recommend "Flickering Lights" and "The Green Butchers". If you want to go back to the most highly regarding film series of Danish cinema, I'd recommend watching "The Olsen Gang" from 1968. :)
Interesting pictures you've picked there, some I have not seen. "Babette's Feast" looks quite interesting! "Reptilicus" looks a bit like a train wreck, have you seen those two? :D

Reptilicus is a joint Danish/American monster movie from the early 60s. It is what I call a 'drive-in' movie. Cheesy but fun. Here is the Wiki article about it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reptilicus
I haven't seen Pusher (or Pusher 2) or Flickering Lights but I will get around to them one day. The first movie I saw him in was King Arthur (he played Tristan). I have seen all the films on the list but I forgot to add Valhalla Rising & Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas.
The Hunt is for the most part sad, all it takes to ruin someone's life is for a confused child to mistake kindness for something else.
Babette's Feast is a quiet little film, I haven't seen it in years. But to me, it's about love & experiencing joy in what you do best.
Is Ove Sprogøe the Danish Peter Sellers?

Too bad there isn't a friend system on TMDB, I've been wanting it for some time - I would love what you think of those films, especially "The Olsen Gang". Be sure to strike up some posts in the discussions, I'll find them eventually. ;)
I know of Peter Sellers, but I don't know what it means to use him as a verb. Ove is among the most prolific and loved actors in Danish history. :)

Why not? Maybe the remake is better.
