Agree with both of you...the Bradshaw scenes were funny & vibrant as was Katt Williams...the rest of the movie is pretty "meh" (a shame cause I LOVE JK Simmons). Came off as more of a DRAMA then a comedy most times.
I liked it all for the most part. Owen Wilson has that laid back attitude and it flavors the whole story. There is some drama to the story, but you could never feel the least bit worried for the brothers. You know they will bounce back. Owen Wilson always makes me laugh. Christopher Walken can also be funny. Bradshaw and Ving Rhames were good.
I don't know. I guess the movie was what I expected and wanted. I liked it.
I haven't been much of a Owen Wilson fan since he tried to commit suicide.
I thought the next movie he made was something of a weird, downer, the four brothers, trip to India, spiritual trek, weird parents, etc.
But I have liked his stuff since then.
It's hard to imagine a guy like that feeling so depressed that he would contemplate suicide. From the perspective of most people, he had it made. So his girl broke up with him over his drug problem, so what?
But that's the thing about depression. It can filter your thinking, it can affect your memory, and it certainly filters the way you see your life going forward. The depressed person may not recall happy times, and think 'my life has always sucked'. From that they project 'my life will always suck and I will feel this pain forever'.
Of course all of that thinking is false. They have just filtered out all the good stuff. I feel sorry for anyone who experiences that much emotional pain, and feels like they have no resources to deal with it. I guess he thought he had screwed up his life so badly, and lost the love of his life in the process. He wanted to punish himself.
I'm glad he got through it. The happy, laid back, Owen is a fun person. I usually like his movies.

Katt Williams (The Hitch hiker) kept his part of the movie going...
