Discuss The Dark Tower

Mainly because it was poorly edited and had a weak plot, which is something you see SYFY Channel with their low budget films. They lost me when they revealed The Dark Man in the first 5 min of the film, instead of having him revealed gradually throughout the film. I am also still unsure of what his end game was and why he wanted to take down the Dark Tower.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I didn't mind the differences from the book. I thought the portrayals of Roland, Walter, and Jake were all good and well realized. There is a lot of stupid stuff like the earthquakes are only in NY and some thin plot developments but I was pleased. A case of a bad movie that I still liked.

5/10 but thumbs up.

BTW, as bad as SYFY is, they knock it out of the park with Dark Matter. Fantastic show. Gets better and better. Give it a try.

I like The Expanse on sight, think it's an interesting show. I also think they get some good movies from time to time but yeah, movies they produce themselves are kinda crappy.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/rEXvFXvTxto

SYFY has great original programming. They probably should handle any potential TV series...

Yeah, that's an insult to SyFy channel. In recent years they do quite good shows and few really good ones. I feel that they are not longer the sci-fi garbage dump. I think the big networks that do shows like Inhumans or The Gifted are pretty much that dump right now.

You're a little bit insane... SyFy hasn't ever produced a decent movie.

I guess you haven't seen a SyFy movie ever in your life.

This was a pretty good movie... although they tried to cover way too much in one movie... they should have made a whole series of movies about The Dark Tower.

Whoa, comments from 2017... Well, at the time I wrote this, Syfy was producing excellent The Expanse, very good The Magicians, very interesting Dark Matter and few decent shows like Dominion and Killjoys. And I am probably forgetting something else. At that time Syfy was starting to get more serious and invest more in the writing of the shows. I am not sure about the movies, though. From what I remember they didn't do well in that area.

I agree on the whole - but I don't think it is intended as a direct adaptation: Roland has the Horn of Eld in the movie indicating that what we see is a turn of the wheel after the books conclude... with that in mind personally I bump up the score a little. (Though I would agree with the criticism that you shouldn't have to read 8+ books to 'get' a film)
