Diskuter Death Note

Tried watching 5 minutes but...idk...Light..will try again. Willem Dafoe's voice fits perfectly. For sure a lot of haters lol esp fans of the Japanese version.

Seen it. I wish I could replace the 80's music with something else. It drew way too much attention to itself. I couldn't focus on the movie, all I could think about was how much I disliked the music.

I watched the original animated series when it came out and many of the Japanese Live Action movies. For me, I am glad they made a new movie, but it just seems strange that after all the effort and money that went into making it (it has vastly superior CG when compared with the Japanese live action movies), why did they decide to go with that music...

Just watched it and loved it, I thought it was far better in every way to the Japanese Live Action movie.

Watched it last night. Hour and a half of my life I'll never get back. -.-

Disregarding the fact that it's an adaptation, it was still god awful. The story was superficial, the characters were hollow, and aside of Willem Dafoe, the acting was pretty bad. I tried not to get my hopes too high, but I still desperately wanted it to be good, so I wasn't setting it up for failure or anything. After the main trailer it already looked like it was going to be a bad adaptation, but I hoped it would be a good movie. On top of that, it was so rushed and disjointed. It failed in every way.

As an adaptation...there's not enough time or words to explain how bad it was. They basically took the bare bones of the original i.e. the death note, the characters names (which they americanised anyway) and the most basic of the plot, and disregarded everything else that made the anime good. Light and Misa/Mia aren't even similar to their anime counterparts. L and Ryuk, are but that's not saying much.

Overall, it was a massive disappointment. I started watching the anime again just to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

I watched it. I honestly liked it, but I know next to nothing about the source material. As a movie itself I thought it was entertaining.

Bad adaptation, bad plot and unlikeable characters. It doesn't work.

Not the worst film but not exactly great. Watchable on its own (just for the sake of & out of curiosity for me - probably not repeating voluntarily), maybe more watchable for those who has no knowledge about Japanese versions. Would be better if they totally changed the name of characters since American version of Light is very different. I only saw the 2 Japanese films and some episodes of the anime and Light was like the anti-hero that I would root for...then back to L...then back to Light. It was fun to watch them outsmart each other. But in this film...didn't really have any wow moments for Light and had to rely on the girl most of the time lol

main lead killed it for me, I was rooting for him to get killed by the end.

interesting idea, but it was rushed and there was little chemistry between the two leads and I found myself rooting for their schemes to fail. The twist was very obvious partly because of that.

it was entertaining though.

Definitely. That was one of the fantastic things about the anime. While Light is a self-righteous vigilante, he's so compelling. I actually rooted for him in the anime and it was so bizarre to me. He's a genius, and his repartee with Ryuk as well as L is great. They completely removed that from this film. He wasn't compelling at all.

It's so irritating to see how many people liked it simply because it was better than the Japanese live action film. Being better than a worse film doesn't suddenly make it good.

You're really using that tired, unfunny, unoriginal cliche'? You also won't get back the time you spent writing something so stupid.

I just watched it and this is what I have to say. You barely got away with it with GitS. This time with DN, you went too far. And now I hear you're filming Akira and have a script and director ready for Naruto too? Hollywood ffs, give up and give in, stick to what you think you know best 👍

Can't be any less boring than the Anime, until I read the Manga to compare it with the movie kept putting me to sleep. One thing I gave Ghost in the Shell credit for was it was slightly less dull than the anime, way to go America!?

Exactly. The vast majority of the targeted (and otherwise) audience has not taken and will not take any interest in the source material to compare it to. As a stand alone movie, it was surprisingly good.
