Why not mention in court that the other day Taliban on motorbike was using children/civilians as human shields? It could be very well same case now, since aparently after bomb attack it shut down Taliban activity.

I still don't get what is the distinction between military and civilian target - so when Taliban is shooting at you hiding between civilians you can't shoot back, because it's civilian target with Taliban hiding inside?

I just don't get it, maybe the real case is just about not confirmed PID and not really if he shoot correct target, but in that case he should not be charged with death of civilians, since his target was apparently correct and eliminated danger to his squad and he could be charged with not following military procedures, but it doesn't matter what was the result (dead civilians + eliminated Taliban bodies removed from scene).

Also why the muslim family after being refused to stay over night at the base just didn't camp in front of their gate if they were afraid about their lives? For sure Taliban would not dare attack them in front of the military base or even if they dared the soldiers could at least quickly intervene.
