Discuss Solo: A Star Wars Story

  1. Mistake in the first place to produce an unnecessary "it's not Harrison Ford" Solo movie.

  2. Not letting the original film makers complete their movie and landing up with an uninspired composite piece.

  3. The Last Jedi being seen as a terrible final insult.

  4. Strange lack of marketing until very late in the day, e.g. the trailer.

  5. Proximity of release too close to The Last Jedi irrespective of thoughts on whether it was any good. Maybe an Xmas release would have saved it?

Or something else?

What do you think the main reason has been?

Keep feeding on those paint chips you seem to be enjoying to much, they certainly helped with your learning disabilities.

I think the concept of a Hans Solo type is not relatable to young people today... They want more sensitive types, nerdy characters, soft characters and such... Characters that monologue their feelings and such... The idea of a young Harrison Ford type seems retrograde to them... Solo is too traditionally masculine for young people today...

When you add to that the fact that StarWars fans who usually hype these StarWars movies for months before release are suddenly trashing the movie before even the trailer was released, it is not difficult to see why it's not that popular a movie...

That makes perfect sense, except for the fact that Star Lord is basically Han Solo. I mean Iron Man is soft and Nerdy...oh no wait he isn't. But there is the Fast and Furious series I guess. Oh wait, those are all hyper masculine men.

Chris Pratt is a funny guy in an aensamble movie... As is downy jr and star is an engineer nerd as his superpower was building his suit, which was the first hour of Iron Man one... Fast and Furious was masculine under Paul Walker ,but as it has progressed became more diluted, after his death it is not masculine at all, with mostly an ensamble joker cast... Unless you guys consider le rock masculine, he's not, he's a cartoon roid boy...

Harrison Ford always had a sense of irony about playing Solo, a nonchalance and verve that is lacking among the boy movies that appeal today... Anyway, no one outside of StarWars fans knows who Hanz Solo is 😉 and they went out of their way to discourage people from watching StarWars...

That's just my take... StarWars movies and fan reactions are so strange to me...I don't have a horse in this race...

The Rock is a homoerotic icon of the WWE wrestling soap opera... I don't understand how anyone can compare him to Ford as portraying a masculine man... Have you guys not seen Random Hearts? (https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/12618-random-hearts ) I doubt The Rock has ever given a performance as red-blooded as Ford did in that movie... Josh Brolin in Labor Day is on that level, but no way could Dwayne Johnson do that... Too cartoon and concerned with his waxed and sculpted appearance to play a real man...

This mansuline idea of a man what people expect from a Solo movie and it is unfashionable now. So the non-fans won't see it on it's own merits because they expect it to be masculine, and the StarWars true fans have been trashing the series for every movie post release after the original three, so it is no surprise that when they trash a movie before it's release it won't have any takers... Who is left?

... Or maybe the film was shitt? Pretentious idiot.

It is very likely that the film was shitty, but the true-beleiver starwars fans trashed it far in advance of it's release, even going as far as to organise a boycott... That is a huge factor in it being a flop...

Oh my god... Demeaning and insulting Solo spinoff critics and detractors as non masculine, pretending to know the meaning of the word masculine (while being anything but masculine yourself), and typing pretentious asinine vomit on film boards... You liked Solo didn't you?

i never said Solo spinoff critics were non-masculine... People have different opinions on movies, i don't judge people even when I discuss their opinions...

I wouldn't watch another StarWars movie after being dragged to The Last Jedi... These movies aren't for me... I've given them numerous chances from The Force Awakens to Rogue One and Last Jedi... They're boring and unsubstantial... They lack verve and excitment apart from maybe one small scene in either Force Awakens or Rogue One... the fight in the market or something, which would be a normal scene in a decent action adventure movie...

I have come to the concusion that you can't satisfy StarWars fans, they are now lamenting the lack of an Obi-Wan movie, but we all know that if they made such a movie they would trash the very idea, the casting and the movie itself at some point... The only difference with Solo is that they trashed it well before watching it, as opposed to afterwards...

Have you seen Random Hearts? It's possibly Ford's best film performance...

You yourself claimed you have never liked any star wars film EVER. So I don't know why you've latched onto this issue, if people disliked Solo before watching it then that's their business. You're a non star wars fan pretending to give a crap if this spinoff fails or not, then there's your bizarre psychiatric analysis of cinema goers that you demean for not liking/liking films you don't. As for Harrison Ford... He's had his day and needs to fuckk off, his old man running gets old real quick.

The thread is about why this movie flopped, so my commentary is perfectly relevant... I'm not pretending to care at all about this spin-off, I don't... I think you might be so caught up in the online fight between Solo haters and Solo apologists that you assumed I was one of these groups...

I never demeaned anyone for their movie tastes... I can dislike what they like, but they're entirely entitiled to their opinions and shouldn't be berated for them... You seem to have a problem with my comments and the fact that I express opinions on these consumerist movies...

@Damienracer said:

No, I have a problem with your masculinity garbage you were vomiting on here yesterday. People see films that they want to see, GET OVER IT! You think I can't smell your desperation tactics from here. What you post isn't fact which is why I always call you pretentious because you like to think you have a clue and an insight on human conditioning... when you actually don't have the foggiest idea.

My comments on masculinity were not directed at the audience, it was to describe the movie/characters, so I don't know why you think I have a problem with people watching the movies they want to watch... They do and I don't have a problem with it. So nothing to call out. I'm simply sharing my opinion on the reasons why Solo flopped, i.e. the topic of this thread.

If you don't like my opinion, fine... But I will continue to post on threads, so you'll have to bear it I suppose....

Did you say " enjoying to much" ??? If you're going to use a 'learning disabilities ' smackdown, you should know the difference between 'to' and 'too'! Proofread your own material! Back to grammer school with you! Hey, this is JUST LIKE THE OLD IMDB!

Ahh...the old grammar-nazi attack. When you've ran out of arguments but still need to justify your shitty existence to people over the internet.

The Boycott is real

It flopped for one simple reason. It's not Harrison Ford. He IS Han Solo... Can't replace perfection relaxed
