Discuss Sex Actually

Item: Sex Actually

Language: en

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: The Netherlands poster and back and the back drop is for a completely different film. The uploader of these had also changed the title to 'The Little Death', a completely different film. I've changed the film title back and amended the original poster to English language. Could you possibly lock the main details of this film to ensure it doesn't happen again?

Can someone please explain to me why the mod Elizabeth Jennings decided to remove the valid correct poster I uploaded and ignore the open report I made regarding the INCORRECT content on this record - including the WRONG poster?? I reiterate, the poster (that Elizabeth Jennings has left) and the backdrop on here are NOTHING to do with Sex Actually!

Please don't be too hard on Paszt, we all make honest mistakes from time to time. slight_smile I removed the images and (hopefully) all the wrong data. Thanks for reporting the issue.

remove the valid correct poster

It you can't find a proper poster for the episode or make one, it's best not to add a poster. worried

Thanks for replying Banana. I have no intention of being hard on Paszt, I'm merely asking a question - a question which has seen me receive an email warning me that I am being 'incivil' (uncivil) I really don't think it's out of order to ask why a report I made to help the site has been overlooked whilst the poster I added a long time ago was taken down. I don't think that's breaking the community guidelines.

The poster that was removed was from the DVD release of this film so I'm not entirely sure why it wasn't allowed. I have had SEVERAL issues regarding images I upload and I have asked time and again what I am doing wrong, and no one has been able to give me an answer. The images I find online and upload are always in the correct minimum ratio and the fan made posters (which you suggest yourself are allowed) are screen grabs from the film itself but they're still removed regardless.

Banana, I have always found you to be the most helpful and accessible mod on here (you've always replied to me) so if you could oblige here I'd be very grateful.

If you look at that long thread, you'll see I asked a mod to reply and they did not.

I've uploaded a new image, I would appreciate if someone would tell me if it is acceptable or not. Equally, I would appreciate it if someone could reply to the thread I started, the link quoted by Elizabeth Jennings/Paszt, as my last question in that thread 'what I really need - I reiterate to all mods - is a moderator opinion to say whether a promo shot or an image and title card is acceptable uploads for customized posters?' still goes unanswered. I find it frustrating that a community user can receive warnings via email and claims I'm being 'incivil' but when you ask a question off the back of it you hit a brick wall.

I would also reiterate a point I raised with Lineker in that thread, 'Given that you wouldn't demand users use the exact official font then can you personally tell me what was wrong with the posters I have used as an example - given that they don't have that exact font and that they do fit the ratio, have no distortion or up scaling? Would you personally just conclude that the images I cite are 'poor'? I want to know because if that's the case, I'll know not to use such format or indeed upload again in the future. I'd rather that than receive an email warning me that my privileges are likely to be taken away for persistent poor image uploads. Again, I really do think an explanation for users is in order because if we don't know, we'll carry on regardless' which wasn't answered/replied to either.

It's usually best not to add the art for a DVD collection to a single episode entry. But, yeah, unfortunately the image is also distorted. That DVD classification logo in the bottom should be a perfect round.

I'm not super familiar with the images you upload and I could be wrong, but the trend I think I see from your very small sample is that our main issue is most probably with objective general image guideline rather than a subjective custom image issue (if we like them or not). That's what I would focus on if I were you. You are very unlikely to be banned if your images follows all of our objective guidelines and our only issue with them is subjective criteria that we can't really explain.

i'm not really in the know here, but imo, why does that entry even have that poster? xD

also, why is that entry there, are all those episodes here also added as movies? or is this some exception? https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/27119-the-comic-strip-presents o.o

Once again thanks for getting back to me Banana Girl. I hate to be a pain but can you give me some clarification as to what you mean when you say objective and subjective guidelines and what the difference is? If I'm to ensure I follow these guidelines I need to understand as much as I possibly can, but from the sound of it what you're saying is a lot of it just depends on personal taste and that an image that may not break the rules as such may still be removed on grounds of subjectivity, which is something impossible for other users to predict and again, it seems pretty harsh, to receive emails saying 'please stop posting inferior images' if that's the case. Thanks again for your help and thanks in advance.

It's got that poster because that particular TV film appears on that DVD release. The Comic Strip films are a tricky grey area. Some were released solely on TV as part of the series that ran through the 80s and 90s. Others were actually given theatrical releases too. Since the series has been officially over now since the '90s it seems that any new films have been granted one off TV film status (including this one, The Hunt for Tony Blair and Red Top) which I'm presuming means they are allowed to be logged in the film section? Thanks for replying and raising these points, it's nice to actually get a conversation going if it means things can be made clearer all round :)

is there something subjectively wrong with this image for example

https://postimg.org/image/91xrgei43v/

It is an image that I recently uploaded that has been removed yet, as far as I can see it is a screen grab of the title card from the film/TV movie and in the correct minimum aspect ratio of 500/750

are all those episodes here also added as movies?

IMO the special episodes are fine (at the very least for now): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Comic_Strip#Return_to_Channel_4

Sure! I'd say 99% of images are deleted because of general objective guidelines:

  • They should be added to the right entry.
  • They should have a proper size and aspect ratio.
  • They shouldn't be distorted.
  • They have to look good when viewed at full size (i.e. not blurry or too grainy).
  • They shouldn't have any random watermarks or logos.
  • They shouldn't have bars on the sides.
  • They shouldn't have any weird color effects that are not part of the original image.

You already know most of our objective custom posters guidelines (e.g. no fan art, book/CD/video games/whatnot covers, images unrelated to the movie) and if "stripped down" versions of posters are made by the contributors themselves, they should be well edited.

The one criteria that I think is mostly objective is whether the custom poster "feel" like a poster and "look good". That's an important one, because creating a poster is not as simple as pasting any kind of text on any kind of image, but it's one that is (annoyingly) really difficult to explain.

Thank you for your help. It's far better than the email I received from 'the TMDB Moderator' who simply said: 'I already responded to you thread regarding the images. It just seems like you don't like the answer.' Which is not only false, as my quotes from the thread (and the thread itself) prove that I had questions left unanswered, but to my mind its the kind of comment that helps no one and is as uncivil as I was accused of being.
