I read the book and watched the 1990 movie (when it originally aired) the entire purpose of "It" assuming the form of a clown was to attract children. So, how is looking like a creepy clown going to attract anyone? Why was this simple fact lost on the film makers/writers? The original had its faults, but at least it got that right.

Well, if you "read" the book, then you would've known that 90' Pennywise and the novel's Pennywise aren't even identical or represented. In the novel, the only time he was ever "friendly" was to Georgie. IT didn't use the clown form to "attract" children, it was to scare them (to him, being scared tastes better. According to SK, he said he created the clown form because "people are scared of clowns". Pennywise never "attracted" or "lure kids" to begin with. He was more of a predator hunting for prey on sight rather than trying to "blend in" to lure it and then killed it. This new PW is following that. Besides, the more scarier the better. So you're right, it hasn't even released yet, and we don't know how he's gonna approach Georgie or his "prey" so how is it a fail?
