Discuss The Meg

... my 8yo really wants to see this, but after reading the parental guide on (cough cough) another site, I'm a little sceptical... He's ok with the violence in Jurassic World, Rampage, Jaws etc but Kong: Skull Island was a bit too much and that was also a 12a/PG13... So, to those who have seen The Meg, can you advise me if this is particularly strong for its rating..? Thanks in advance!

8 year old? Psht, someone brought in what seemed to be a 2 to 4 year old for a 4D show when I went. I was so pissed off.

I should mention that I live in Hong Kong and the rating here is IIA (+12 years old and anyone under has to be accompanied by parents) but it really felt like they were making a total joke out of it.

Every three seconds the kid was like "Mama, mama". Really made my date irritated which didn't bode well as she wasn't even interested in the movie in the first place.

Anyway, if you're kid is old enough to understand the difference between reality and fiction then yeah go for it.

My parents let me watch Robocop and Jaws when I was 5 and I turned out perfectly normally except for that one time I got into a fight with a mannequin and stormed a 711 with a frozen chicken.

@simian_ninja yeah that would piss me off too! Going by these posts I think he'll be fine, I'm thinking of taking him Sunday... (So if I get woken by a screaming 8yo having nightmares I'll know who to blame!!)

Damn it rofl

Ok, quick update... Took my 8 yo to see it yesterday (finally!) and he loved it... More to the point (as some of you might be pleased to know) he didn't have nightmares last night!! For me, it was good dumb fun - perfect popcorn trash to enjoy with my boy, but no better (apart than the cgi) than most shark films on sy-fi (or whatever it's called) 5/10 (better than Jaws: The Revenge.

I thought Meg would be scarier for children I guess I was wrong.

Scarier than Jaws???? No way. It was just a fun film.

Yeah it was less violent and gory than Jaws... It really wasn't too far off a PG... I think Statham utters "Motherfu.. " and gets cut off by doors closing is what gave it a 12a
