I did. A friend told me he "liked the action in the first one", and I told him that while the first had more action, I "liked the magnitude and the closure of this one". On a side note, I found it easier to care for the lad in this film, than the girl in the first. At least we get to see him working (painting may not be hard work, but he's working), while we only see the girl when she's at the diner. Moreover, the girl was so quiet and orthodox, and I couldn't really identify with that.
I finished it. Yawn. So forgettable. Where's all the improvised weapon use? And what's with the rampant do-gooderism and forced ethnic diversity in the story?
Re: "the industry" - is just fine. I'll pay for a film in a theater when I know it's not crap, as I did recently with the Sicario sequel.
I went to see it last night, and I'm sadly really disappointed in that movie. The first installment was a nice action flick, this one, though, feels like like a B-movie from 1980s.
I originally saw this on 08-21-18 at the drive-in. I enjoyed it more than the first one and wanted to see the first one because of Chloe Moretz, but I was disappointed with her part in the movie. I used to watch The Equalizer when it originally aired on TV, so I thought a series of Equalizer movies was a good idea. The 2nd one is more like how I would have thought the franchise should go, but I'm starting to think Denzel might be getting a little too old for this part. He did really well, but I can see a time like in the Bond series someone new will have to take over Robert McCall's roll.
I liked it, but it was only slightly above average as an action flick. It was fairly predictable. I think everyone saw the big villain reveal as soon as he was introduced, and he wasn't even that charismatic. As far as acting goes, Denzel can still bring it. He had a couple of really stand out scenes, and the supporting cast was pretty decent. There were some interesting sequences like McCall's investigation of a murder where his process seemed almost clairvoyant. As for the action, while there were some cool scenes, overall the action choreography wasn't the best but it suited McCall's character.
Overall, I would recommend this movie, but don't go in thinking it's going to be a barn-burner.
I thought it was pretty bland. I'd give the first film a 7/10 and this sequel a 5/10. The TV series is a solid 8/10 and much better than both of these films.
Denzel was great as ever but these films need to offer much more invention. The fight scenes were OK but kinda bland compared to The Raid films, hell The Matrix was 20 years ago and the fights are still jaw-dropping. There’s stuff on TV which impresses more than the rather rote action on display here.
A solid sequel but these R-rated action films are all too rare and need to really offer something special if they’re to survive, this one didn’t.
Not really. The first one was WAY better. I don't think DW used a gun in it even once which to me makes it far more interesting than the usual hackneyed gun play (as in this one).

Not to mention, the showdown at the end was pretty predictable and not unlike about a thousand other films.

I'd like to add I thought that whole battle scene on the island was pretty cool!

I thought it was just Okay. I thought the first was a little better. The fight scene during the raging hurricane was a little too much for me.

The action doesn't have to be bigger or louder or better than other previous movies. It just has to be good.
