Did Maude really love Harold?

Did Maude really love Harold, or did she simply enjoy his company? Was he just a fling to her? One last hurrah before she offed herself?
I think it's pretty clear that Harold fell for Maude, but I just don't know if she fully returned those feelings.

IMHO the main hurdle/fun/issue is knowing/understanding how she loved...

I agree Jeff, she loved him in her own way. Really how could she not? He was a lost soul, her favorite thing! She was a free spirit and had unconventional ideas about everything including love.

In my mind I don't think she was lying when she said she loved him, but it was very different from the young/first love Harold felt for her. I think a big part of it was having a fun experience before she died but she cared a lot for him too.

no... not love, but she did care for him and find in him a kindred spirit...
