...that they should really have just cast a British actress, or made the character an American. What a surprise when I got my wish at the end. Loved that twist!

FYI Theron is south african.

I love Charlize in this role, but the entire time I watched her as this character, I kept imagining Kate Beckinsale in that role.

Actually she is an African American. Seriously.

As for the plot twist- beyond infantile.

The problem is that Beckinsale can't act. I hate to badmouth any performer but the chances of her pulling off a respectable performance in this stinker is near zero.

If you are referring to her citizenship, BFD. If you are referring to her race, NFW. Whites in south africa are nearly all just dutch, its why they speak afrikaans which is just a dutch derivative. There is zero chance that she would ever refer to herself as "african american."

I was being facetious. Identity politics is absurd.

I was being facetious. Identity politics is absurd.

If only you could convince the white, straight, guns & god crew that their identity was absurd we'd all be better off.

Not my job to convince anyone of anything, least of all on an entertainment forum.

I never said 'identity was absurd', I said Identity politics is absurd. Identity politics is the replacement of ideas as the currency of communication with beliefs about entitlement and disentitlement based on matters of birth. Again, it is absurd. It doesn't become less absurd because the person exploiting identity politics is black rather than white, queer rather than straight, or rich rather than poor.

On topic, the whole point of acting is pretending to be someone you are not. Which is why confused identitarians sometimes get upset on movie boards.

Not my job to convince anyone of anything, least of all on an entertainment forum.

And yet here you are trying to do exactly that in every single post in this thread.

Which is why confused identitarians sometimes get upset on movie boards.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

Clarifying what I have said isn't the same thing as 'convincing white men blah blah blah'. I couldn't care less about your beliefs. I care that what I say (particularly something light hearted) isn't turned into something else, something dark and stinky, by halfwits.

Just accept that you missed a rather obvious piece of irony, rushed into some righteous indignation that was entirely out of place, and that you were too proud to admit you jumped the gun.

I couldn't care less about your beliefs.

Sure, that's why for every line I write, you've written 3+, a constant stream of butthurt insults and ultimately a demand that I acknowledge your genius.

No way. Kate is miles above Charlize in talent and beauty.

Nope, she is not.
