Most of the movie played out like an 80's music video in quality as well as content. Major over-use of music throughout. A classic case of style over substance.
But suddenly in the center of the movie it became a good film for about 15 minutes. The action was better and more connected to events, there was a reason to care about a character/s, and they weren't blaring music every time none was talking.
Sadly it slumped back into lots of voguing scenes, reminders that the Berlin Wall is coming down, and senseless attempts at intrigue.
I don't blame the leads. They both did fine jobs with what they had. They couldn't save this from the writing and especially the directing.
4/10 movie, skipable

I liked it but the plot was overly complicated and confusing. Good but not great. I like the John Wick movies better.

It was directed by one of the directors of John Wick. He clearly has a penchant for style over substance but I don't think anyone can put together a better fight sequence than these two John Wick directors at the moment.
I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/FJHDz39T6wo

I enjoyed it even though the story was lacking and some of the music used did not fit the scene such as the George Michael "Father" playing in the apartment fight sequence. As far as the action and acting goes Theron delivers. It's a 7/10 for me. I'm a little worried for Deadpool 2 though. I hope they don't go for more style over substance and play unusual music for every fight scene. In Deadpool 1 I didn't think the music was over done.

Loved this movie. The fight/gun battle with the KGB agents is amazing, definitely have to see it again. Also, the soundtrack is great too (I grew up to that music in the 80's). I wished they used the Kinks song "Add It Up" when Lorraine realizes she was set up.

My wife hated it. She said it seems like Charlize Theron just made this film to look cool and smoke in every scene. It did feel like I was just watching a music video with some story and action sprinkled in. I think the cinematography and acting was ok. The fight scenes are very well made, especially the long tracking shot fight/shoot out, and the lighting is great. Sound design was pretty damn good as well. I think the soundtrack was fantastic but took away from the story at some points in the film. But the way they decided to tell the story was just terrible. I know they wanted to try something different but ugh I dont think it worked. You werent really invested in what happens to her since you know she lives and is telling the story.
I gave it a solid 3/10 and my wife a 0.5/10. She wasnt impressed obliviously.

I though it was an ok movie (not bad but not great either), but one thing threw me off was the use of the English version of Der Kommissar. I thought it was an interesting choice to use British songs in England singers (like David Bowie) and German songs in Germany (though the using 99 Luftballons German version was kind of a weird choice since the original was French). However, that was completely thrown off by the use of the English version of Der Kommissar in Germany since the German version was expected (and was already the original and the better received version of the song).

I finally saw it earlier tonight. Really good movie! Loved the soundtrack as that set the period, the cold war intrigue, the styles of the time, and some great action scenes. +

Overall I liked it, it's not a masterpiece, but watchable and Charlize Theron is always worth watching and so are James McAvoy. I especially liked the plot twist in the end - I didn't see that one coming.
(Although I was on to Lorraine being *** *********** I wouldn't have guessed in a million year that she was in fact *** *****)

??? 99 Luftballons is Neue Deutsche Welle so the original is German. But you are spot on with the odd Kommissar version.

Most of the music is from the wrong era, early 80s new wave rather than late 80s. Stylistically the movie looks like it was designed by someone who wasn't around at the time or spent the era so off their face they misremembered everything.
The plot is incoherent if not outright nonsensical: The Spy Who Came in From the Cold it isn't. The action scenes are ludicrous. Almost everyone in the story is too old for their roles, and I speak as someone who definitely aint young, so that isn't ageism. The cinematography is substandard. Had this been an actual nod and a wink to 80s videos , an homage, it might have worked, but it comes out as cheap pastiche.
If one isn't going to do a straight spy thriller then you need to either get some satirical or comic moments in there, or at least respect the era. Atomic Blonde does none of these things. Waste of time.

same here, not confusing, not complicated, not hard to follow - except for it being so incredibly boring.
