Ugh might be a little harsh. I thought the cinematography was just amazing. The acting was ok and the lead wasnt very likeable, but I think that added to the character more. Not to mention the locations, breathtaking. The story could have used some refinement for sure and so could have the editing. Seemed to drag to much in the middle before we got the big reveal and conclusion. But I think the message was pretty clear, live life to the fullest. I do agree with the Shutter Island vibes for sure.

Actually yes, I'd agree re the cinematography, it was very nicely shot. In fact I paused it after watching the first hour one night and thought it was reasonably good. Nicely shot although a little clichéd and leaning heavily on Shutter Island but still ok...

I think it went down hill literally (!) from the moment he cycled down into town with the girl. From that point it seemed they couldn't decide between whether it should be a gothic horror or psychological thriller so just went with both. If they'd picked the later and chopped around half an hour off the run time (which would helpfully remove the absurd ending) it could have been passable.

Dude my sentiments exactly! I thought the 1st hour was really well done. It had a nice slow, creepy vibe like The Shining with a lot of nice shots. But yeah as soon as they go bicycling into town it turns into some serious wtf.

In the last 20 mins they tried to throw in too many false-climax-endings. I swear it’s like they test screened the film with 3 alternate endings and the audience couldn’t pick one so they crammed all 3 in there.

Ending #1 was after his little ridiculous dental procedure and eel transfusion, the girl finds him at the fountain and he has turned into a happy zombie. I actually thought it would’ve been a decent ending there. But no, inexplicably he snaps out of it, leading us to...

Ending #2 where we get the big daddy Phantom of the Opera reveal (complete with randomly ripping his face off hahaha) and the whole place burns down, which was pretty crazy but at least it ended on a cool visual of the happy inmates dancing around the burning castle, but noooo it couldn’t end there because we had to finish with...

Ending #3 the Disney ending where they’re riding off into the night on a freakin bicycle (having been hit head on by an oncoming car, no less)

I was just waiting for Ending #4 where the bike takes off into the air and silhouettes across a giant moon.
