Not good so far. But France, China and others are missing in the numbers by now. But even if it is a big hit in his Homecountry... i doubt it can be safed:Boxoffice Valerian

That sucks! I'd hoped Europeans would appreciate it more and save it from bombing.

you know what, this movie reminds me of those epic sci-fi fantasies films that was released in the 80s that was supposed to be the next big thing but flopped and later on becomes cult classics.

Sad, if it was called Star Wars or Star Trek it would of been a hit, movie goers are so lazy these days being force fed franchises and sequels.

I just watched Valerian and thought it was amazing. On par with Fifth Element (without the boring Egypt scenes). I'm really not sure why people aren't watching it. My excuse was my friends weren't available to watch it till today, but we always had planned to watch it when our schedules allowed it. I'm kicking myself for not seeing it earlier in IMAX 3D.

My testament for the movie, was it made me feel for Bubble, and she was onscreen for only about 5 minutes. Its only through a strong performance and great direction that could accomplish that. Plus her show alone was worth the ticket price, just as good or better than the Diva's in Fifth Element.

@Innovator grin I'm going to see it tomorrow, and my expectations for it are high. I just hope that Eric Serra is doing the score.

It didnt deserve to bomb the way it did. It was entertaining. But Dunkirk nuked it and ran off with the box office.
The friggin Emoji movie even beat it the following week and WHY would anybody choose that??? Valerien had a cool trailer, you would think fantasy fans would have been into it, but instead they decided to go see anything but. Oh well.

Well, regardless of how much money it makes, I love it!

--------Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night---

I bought the special two disc DVD edition going to watch it on Christmas Day the opening is amazing with the David Bowie - Space Oddity score.

I hate to be contrarian, but I didn't enjoy it very much. The visuals were spectacular and, strangely enough, I thought that the little pearl converter creatures were absolutely adorable, but I agree with the critics that savaged the acting performances by DeHaan and Levigne. I cannot imagine two less charismatic leads in a film that needed them to be interesting, warm, and humorous. Levigne was flat and nearly emotionless while DeHaan seemed to be trying to talk in a voice two octaves below his natural voice. And the K-Trons, for all the buildup, were about the DUMBEST and least lethal combat robots I've ever seen in a movie.

The message was nice, but we've seen it before many, many times on Star Trek. And it lacked that something that made his prior effort, The Fifth Element, so fun and engaging. (It kind of blows me away that TFE's production values were even higher, and the visuals more arresting, for a film made two decades ago before CG was as sophisticated.) I guess you could peg it to LeeLoo being such a fun and entertaining character, proving that the actor really does make the film.

Man, put two other GOOD actors in there and this movie would have soared.

@AlienFanatic: I have to retract my earlier post about loving it (I hadn't actually watched it when I wrote that). It seemed to me to be The Fifth Element on way too much Xanax.

:) I did want to love it. I tend to give sci-fi films a lot of leeway but as I get older I need more than just action set pieces, which unfortunately this put ahead of good characters. It seemed to make back its money, so maybe Besson will get a second shot at making Valerian work.

I heard that the new Star Wars has a lot more issues than this movie *SPOILERS*

The only character and reason for watching any sequels, prequels or whatever the F **** you want to call them of Star Wars for fans of is totally ruined .

The shadowy main baddy from ep VII turns out not to be so badass and gets whacked easily.

Space casino

One of the most loved characters of the OT who is no longer with us goes to have a Mary Poppins routine in SPAAAaaccee.

After hearing and reading that I wonder whether this movie isn't all that bad
