Discuss Tomb Raider

It is slow getting started and not an overabundance of action for this type of film. You may also say much of it you have seen before in concept from other films such as Raider, Alan Quartermain and other films. Yet it is better than the two prior in the series and should play well overseas.

I just watched it. I liked it a lot, it was great fun. This Lara wasn't the Ms. Perfect do no wrong type of Lara that Jolie's was. Alicia Vikander's Lara made mistakes and barely could make it by the skin of her teeth type of adventurer which added reality to the role (a staple of the new Tomb Raider games). Her physically was also realistic, as Alicia Vikander's looked like she had long trained for the role, and her fitness (and abs) showed that even though she was green to it all, she could pull of what she does in the film. 4/5 for me.

Ms perfect? Once I've gotten over your absurd spelling mistakes of her name that's still a piss poor rethinking of Angelina's LARA Croft. I get this all the time with recastings but never go full Craig retard.

Sorry, I was half asleep when I wrote it, I had just gotten back from the last show yesterday and wanted to get my thoughts on the movie down before I went to bed, hence the name spelling mistakes (which are fixed now). Having slept on it, I still think that Vikander's performance was more realistic than the posh way too competent Lara that Jolie played (as much as I still liked the original Tomb Raider movies). Jolie played the Lara of the video game's past, Vikander plays the Lara of the games of the present, and I feel the newer movie and game superior to those which proceeded it (and I own all the Tomb Raider games so far). With that, I look forward to both the games and movies to come.

Angelina Jolie is/was the most overrated starlet. She had three things going for her in movies: bewbs, lips, and a penchant for doing accents well. The rest of her body is a twiggy, bony mess and her acting sometimes reaches the heights of merely average. I'm so glad that the era of Hollywood reporters gushing over her knobby chicken leg jutting out of her dress slit has past. Her breasts fit the Lara Croft template and that was chief among what fans wanted. Her Tomb Raider movies were garbage. Stupid but fun.

New TR is both better and worse than its predecessors. Overall a much better written, acted, and directed film. Yet the original two had far more fantastic scenes with extreme traps and things to wow the audience. They just went too far. This new one doesn't go far enough. Less stupid but not as much fun.

The first half of new TR is pretty good. Vikander did better than I thought she would. Then when they got to the island, things started to get boring. It felt like they got rushed in production or had a different writer for the 2nd half. Turned out pretty lame. Still a better movie than the Jolie ones.

TR1: 3/10 TR2: 4/10 TR3: 5/10

Jolie's tomb raider movies are infinitely better than skinny Justine Bieber/Lara Croft played by Vikander who'd probably vomit up your reply if it was food.

You saw it? How would you score each of them?

Do you seriously think that Vikander looks male? She doesn't have attractive features to you? If so, that's fine. I guess some guys are 100% breast men and the rest means nothing. I get it. I'm 85% leg man so I can be forgiving of a lot if the stems are mesmerizing. Maybe Jolie's breasts are hypnotizing you (they were actually perfect for the original Lara) and that kept you oblivious to the sh1tty movie going on behind them.

Justin freakin Bieber, man.

By that you mean "No, I did not see it and I have trouble telling men from women." I would tell you to tape a few tets pictures to some glasses and watch the movie but it was barely better than the original swill they dumped on us. So you can go on about Justin Beiber etc but you'd have more adroit criticisms if you just watched it. Plenty to complain about other than "wah, girl not pretty"

I watched it, man. The ending was dull, predictable father clichéd figure, mediocre stupid as hell villains. Kristin Scott Thomas was the only redeeming part of this Justine Bieber featured garbage.

Ah! Good. I agree that the ending sucked and the villain poorly done. I disagree about KS Thomas though. She was bad in this. I will admit that I would have liked it if they had cast a different person in the lead (I felt the same way about Man From Uncle) but she did well enough in both. Though I would still have recast it. She didn't change my mind. She just exceeded my expectations. She looks OK so I don't get the Justin Bieber jab. Is it that her breasts are not huge? Is that all? Or is it a whole-package deal? Like if her bewbs were large you would like her?

The whole first half of the movie was good other than hitting us with the dad's recap TWICE. I only started feeling ripped off when they got to the island. I'm a Goggins fan but he was a shit villain. It failed to bring the Tomb Raider feel to the screen and got cliched and stupid.

I agree that the new one didn't seem to go far enough and was very low key, but I still think it's a better movie than the Jolie ones.

The only real problem with the new one is that it takes them too long to get to the island, and then when they do get there they don't really utilize the island, and the villain didn't seem that interesting.

Although I found it a pleasant surprise that they DIDN'T go the supernatural route and tried to ground the climax in reality, in the games, the fact that Himiko's spirit is keeping everyone on the island was a big part of the game. It doesn't seem like as big a deal if you can just call a helicopter and leave. That part in the game where Himiko uses lightning to swat a plane out of the sky and it's crashing down on Lara would have been cool to see on screen. There really are 3 or 4 scenes from the game they could have worked into the movie, but then the budget would have been much larger.

Still though, as a first movie I think it did a good job for non-game players. But if there is a sequel they really need to go bigger and will have no choice but to embrace the supernatural aspects since that's a big part of Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Did you just call DAME (but not a Dame yet, well... She bloody should be, lazy fuckking Queen of England) Kristin Scott Thomas bad?

Yep. She had that just-picking-up-a-paycheck vibe like the entire cast of the Stargate movie. Maybe she is your champion but I got nothing from her in this movie. Zero. Could have been anyone in that role. ( I now remember that her initial appearance when bailing out Lara was respectable acting so I'll give her half credit but thereafter ... snooore zzz

I played the original game more than twenty years ago, and I must admit that Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft was more like the game character than Alicia Vikander is, and I enjoyed those movies. This isn't bad as such, but Vikander doesn't look anything like the original Lara Croft, and her character are too immature and insecure, and totally lacks the mature and confident behaviour Jolie's character were in possession of.

Watched the movie yesterday. It's a solid adventure flick. Vikander is definitely much better in the role than Jolie. Those movies are just plain crap. Jolie played herself not Lara Croft.

I too really liked this remake better than the Jolie version. Vikander by the way is very easy on the eyes.
