I Liked the pacing. Was like a cross between No Country for Old Men and Bonnie and Clyde. Enjoyable. Worthy of Oscar Nomination, but IMO i think Captain Fantastic was the best movie of 2016. Viggo Mortensen killed it in this role
While the film had its moment, I thought it was the most average of all the best picture contender's I've seen so far. I love western and Coen Brothers films – this seems like a mix of both – but HoHW just didn't do it for me.
After rewatching this for the 3'd time, I rate this at the the best Movie of 2016..
it had good acting and production, but plot was pretty boring and it's worse than Manchester by the sea, Captain Fantastic or Hunt for Wilderpeople, I would say on par with Arrival which was quite disappointing as well, No Country for old men is instant classic, this one, forgotten next year...

i'm watching captain fantastic right now so i can't comment yet on which was better but having watched hell or high water earlier today, i have to say i was really impressed. an outstanding screenplay - i really hope it wins the oscar for that tonight - plus enough characterisation for me to find myself caring about all of the principals. when the deputy got shot in the head, i forgot i was on a train and gasped. i was really invested, and wanted the brothers to make it. a very satisfying film.
i try to watch all the films nominated for best picture and once i finish captain fantastic i will have watched them all (except for hacksaw ridge because, well, mel gibson). the quality has been high this year and i have had a blast.

Its the one i wanted to win but moonlight did deserve the win. Hacksaw ridge was the most average one imo. I dont even know how it even got nominated.
I found the attempts to portray some kind of swaggering Texan gun toting masculinity and 'honor among thieves' a bit heavy handed and the performance of Pine a bit underwhelming. As, disappointingly, was the score by the mighty Cave and Ellis. I did enjoy the world's slowest car chase though, it was like they were out for a Sunday drive! It passed the time well enough, kind of like sitting on your porch with nothing to do - but I wouldn't be handing it any awards.

It was better than expected and one of the better Oscar nominees for Best Picture.

I enjoyed it a lot although I think it could have benefited from slightly more character development. Excellent cinematography.

I don't know, the Sheriff didn't do his work, he didn't asked for help, etc. The writing wasn't the best.

No, that would be Hacksaw Ridge.
This was decent though. No character development, but cool chase movie. Didn't belong in best picture race though.
The 5 BP noms should have been LA La Land, Hacksaw Ridge, Arrival, Lion, and Loving.
