A damn shame, they definitely could've done something with the character and the Symbiote (which in the comic spins many characters).

Frankly I had a blast watching this. Genuine laughs and I was actually hooked. Unlike how it was watching Infinity War, as an example.
Venom was hilarious, Hardy played the part extremely well - lots of physicality put in to it. I could've done without a few of the action sequences in favor of more dialogue, frankly. It was great.
I really hope they'll follow it up with a sequel, this could be great. 5/5 just for making me actually laugh.

With a +800 Million return there is def going to be a sequel. Not to mention the set up at the end for it. I enjoyed this film as well and was really surprised by it. I know the 'critics' if you can actually call them that ripped it apart but the fans have spoken and its a success.

Maybe not being too familiar with the comics has allowed me to enjoy it more. But I don't really listen to what critics say any more.. The disparity between critics and audiences just seems to continue to grow.

I 100% agree. The critics and sites like RT.com have started to show bias towards certain films. I just like to look at the scores for films for fun. I think the time has passed where people actually listen film critics, at least I hope the majority of people have anyway.

It had some moments that I liked, but not many. That fight between the two symbiotes at the end gave me Mortal Kombat Annihilation flashbacks for the Animality battle: wacky stuff that went on too long in my view.

Frankly the movie was pretty bad. Its not unwatchable. But its a forgettable mess. The only time the movie even remotely kept my interested was the fight at the end. Also the bad guy was cliched as hell. "Oh lets save humanity by killing them with space Aliens". The Banter between Eddie and Vemon was the only highlight of the film. Otherwise its just not that good. If want a good Spider-man related sony movie. Go watch Spider-man into the Spider-verse.

I don't know about All of the MCU movies. Guardian of the Galaxy, Winter Soilder are just as good as Spider-man 2. The thing is, Once Raimi left. Sony Spider-man movies went to $hit. Amazing Spider-man 1&2 were crap. And TASM 2 was so bad. That Sony Japan told them make a deal with Disney. Venom sucked and into the Spider-verse was only good because of the creative team. Without Raimi, Sony dose not have a good track record of making quality movies, with only one exception. And now that sony has complete control of Spider-man. I can only assume were going get more mediocre movies like Venom here. Also Superman the movie demonstrated how to adapt a comic book film way before Raimi was out of high school.

Venom was so horrific that when creating his tie-in tune for the end credits, Eminem- who has already been at a career low for quite some time now- had to make it so diabolically abysmal just to match up with the rest of the film.

It did. But that had long since been forgotten. And Raimi took things a whole step further, giving his films a vibe straight from the comics 60s roots. His films had an 'Aww, shucks' mentality. A goofy, campy, apple pie, naive innocence that embraced the comics nature rather than trying to escape from it.
Not to knock the Superman films because they are very good, but Richard Donner's style is very much just-point and shoot. Raimi's cartoony style completely melded with the material and felt like a breath of fresh air back then.

While i love the Raimi films. I don't think Raimi Spider-man was that revolutionary. Spider-man 2 and Superman 2 are very similar. Both deal with a hero who feel like they pick between what they want and what are there responsibility. They just come to different conclusions. You can say that Raimi did it better. But wouldn't say he invented it. Just Saying.
