Discuss Venom

So after the new trailer it seems like they are trying to go pretty dark. But how dark can they go with a PG13 rating? I mean no way its going to be R right? No blood and cut aways seem to be the way they are going.

Both Batman and Batman Returns were PG13 back in the day. I assume this is the dark they mean rather than the old gore, gore, violence, voilence. You'd think studios would have more spine in a post Deadpool/Logan world.

I know what you mean. But since it seems like they chop up and eat plenty of people in the trailers I was wondering if they would go full blood and gore. Im sure it will be fine without any but I was hoping they might take a chance. But than again this is Hollywood so I shouldnr expect much.

I think it looks pretty good. I will anticipate the bits where Venom turns into Tom Hardy.

I saw the trailer up for this at IMDb today; I didn't even bother to look at it. Ho hum

It's Tom Hardy that's drawn my interest to it. As you would probably gather by my previous comment. I think he could bring some depth to the comic book film. And I do think it's looking better trailer by trailer. You should give it a wee look.

I think they are def going to have one more trailer. Hopefully it will bring in those that are still on the fence.

I just can't see any Spider-Man or Spider-Man spinoff going the R-rated route. It's a completely different audience than Logan or Deadpool. Even Logan was a risky venture, though I think many always thought Wolverine was neutered by the genre. I mean, how can you make a combat scenes with guy with giant knives for hands bloodless?

Also, I think that you can get right up to the edge of an R with PG-13 to the degree that most folks wouldn't notice. You can leave in a substantial amount of violence as long as there are no F-bombs or too much skin.

Well arent we supposed to have Venom eating people and ripping them apart? Same concept as Wolverine except with claws and a giant mouth. But yeah I dont think they will go the R route at all. Many cut away shots for sure and no blood.

Cheers, I did watch the trailer at IMDb and it was decent. Pretty good special effects for this one!

So Sony confirmed its PG13 'to reach as many people as possible' and the director said he wanted a R Venom. So hopefully we can get an R home release but in cinema its def going to be PG13 unfortunately. :(

I remember them talking about a similar thing back in the early days of Nolan's Batman trilogy. This kinda thing would be interesting but it never happens.

I knew the movie would be a ss when I read they were not using Carnage as the villain. Since they are using Riot, Agony, Lasher, Phage, and Scream I knew this would be a wait for redbox film.

Well I think they are trying to push for a franchise. I think it would have worked really well if they went with a dark R to stand out more and please the hardcore fans.

It's been rated 15 here in the UK.

Even those films had very adult themes and blood, well I know Batman Returns did. It was minor bleeding, but still there. The thing is you could get away with more back in the 80's & early 90's with a PG-13 rating. There were PG-13 movies with heavy swearing and violence back then, like La Bamba for example.
