讨论 Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Is what I'd be tempted to say, but on second thought I'm not so sure. Crystal Skull was just bad and had one asinine scene after another. This one....well...it's kind of bad, but its' biggest flaw is that it's just mediocre, bland and rather uninteresting. The first 15 minutes or so are rather decent and I have to compliment them on the whole de-aging thing as it looks much better in this movie than it usually does in other movies. Anyways after the beginning it all goes rather south and the movie focuses rather heavily on the new female character. I'm not sure that's what fans of the series really wanted to see. I sure didn't. Now, as we all know they failed miserably last time when they introduced Shia as the "new" Indiana Jones and were hoping it would kick off and they could start making Indy movies with him as the star. Did they learn anything from that? Apparently not. They try the same thing here and now they are trying to pass the hat to the new female character. Apparently it was even more egregious originally and after some backlash there some reshoots. Anybody want to make a guess is the audience going to fall head over heels over this new character and do they now have a new cash cow on their hands. That's a big ol' NOPE.

Also since I'm here: what was Antonio Banderas even doing in this movie? Why even cast him in such a miniscule and utterly pointless role. I guess he needed the money. Also honorable mention to the twelve(?) year old street kid thief who just happens to know how to fly planes among other things. You'd think that with such knowhow he wouldn't have to live on the street stealing, but what do I know.

tldr; Mediocre forgettable fluff 5/10 (that's probably generous).

What are you talking about? There was never any passing the hat scene in this movie. The movie was about Indiana Jones coming out of retirement to get back into it. He literally kept his hat and whip at the end of the movie. The movie wasn't about that. The intentions of the writers were blatantly obvious in that they were writing instead an Indiana Jones/Lara Croft crossover, but real life IP problems wouldn't allow it to happen. British daughter of a renowned archeologist goes after a treasure that her father was looking for before he died. Without his influence she becomes a Tomb Raider instead of the academia route, and mainly in it for the thrill and the money she can get from recovering lost artifacts. Sound familiar? Even the interactions between Indy and Helena were exactly what anyone would expect from Indy and Lara, in that Lara would try to show off her knowledge and abilities to Indy, but Indy would show her up every single time due to his greater experience while also showing his disapproval of her being a treasure hunter. The only thing missing was Lara's dual guns akimbo and her disdain for the conservation of endangered species.

As for Antonio Banderas, limited pointless roles are just what he's been taken lately. Did you watch Uncharted?

I strongly disagree. Crystal Skull was much more entertaining and actually had a plot. I watched it few times and I was entertained each time, Spielberg was in great form as director.

Crystal Skull was the Indy passing the hat movie which the OP accussed Dial of Destiny to be. Dial of Destiny was about bringing Indiana Jones back from retirement, not retire him. Also, Dial of Destiny was just an obvious attempt to make an Indiana Jones/Lara Croft crossover before Harrison Ford can no longer play the character.

What are viewers even supposed to do with this drivel, atrocious. Why do they keep making things like this? Who can possibly think there is any rational reason behind any of this?

It wasn't that bad but you're right, there wasn't any real need for it. I guess I had low expectations and was comparing it to Crystal Skull (which I agree with the OP, that's still the worst in the series).

There were still some stupid scenes like the horse riding in the subway and the kid flying a plane. But that's nothing compared to nuking the fridge and the monkey scene from Crystal Skull.

This is good news. However, the OP didn't have to disparage the Latino (Banderas) like that.

I just take that kind of thing as part and parcel of this type of movie, at this point.
