family names

is it normal in India or was at that time to not teach children their family name and address? I made sure when my son just joined kindergarten that he must know his full name, sister name, my name (well he knows mother's too but that would not be much help because nobody would understand such foreign name) and at least our street name in case he would be lost and this boy was way older, for sure at least 5-6 so it should be one of the most important things to learn exactly for this situation

MY DAUGHTER IS 11.SHE HAS KNOWN HER FULLNAME SINCE SHE WAS 4 OR 5.SHE IS JUST NOW LEARNING OUR ADDRESS HOWEVER.SHE HASNT BEEN OUT OF MY SIGHT SINCE SHE WAS BORN.IM THE MOMMY/DADDY.
