Wow, very disappointing. Just went on and on. Crappy dialogue, flashbacks cut in and out, horrible editing. How did this movie win Golden Globe is beyond me

Yeah all the accolades for the movie....I found it very depressing. It's one movie I won't be watching again.

isn't it sign of good movie if it made you feel bad instead of leaving no feelings at all?

I was waiting and waiting for something, but nothing special for me.

I expected this to be a quality drama, based on a variety of reports, and began to watch, despite being generally annoyed with Casey Affleck as an actor. I did not get past the early scene, just moments in to the film, which involved the discussion of replacing or repairing the toilet "apparatus". The dialogue, and performance of both actors, in that one little scene was SO poor that I will need strong encouragement to go back for two more hours worth. My ears and mind are open, but convincing me that the remainder is worth it will have to be accompanied by an admission that that scene was extraordinarily weak. Have at it ;)

It's not worth it. I know opinions vary but to me those that enjoy this movie I can't for the life of me see why.

I agree and now:
Best actor WINNER: Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea)

I watched this on my phone while painting my nails before it got all the praise and crap and I turned it off halfway through the movie because it was so boring. Can't believe it was so overrated at the Oscars but of course the Oscars gives most awards and recognition to movies that don't deserve it.

I hated it. Worst movie of the year to me, way overhyped and overrated, and a waste of time. I wouldn't pay a penny to own this on dvd.

I guess it was okay but I sort of felt like I was watching an early 80s made for tv miniseries movie. And I didn't think that performance was so stellar; seemed quite average for Affleck.

I was disappointed in the movie as well. After all the hype and Oscar nominations, it kinda left me cold. The high point of the movie was when you found out what happened to his kids and why. The later meeting with his ex-wife was overblown -- not Michelle Williams best work. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't see this in the theater. Definitely worth the wait for streaming or DVD! Not a bad movie overall --- it was depressing --- definitely evoked that feeling -- but not the great movie I was expecting.

I don't rely on how many awards a show/movie wins. The ratings of professional critics don't matter to me. What I find a more reliable guide are regular people.

I think it's possibly the best American film of the past couple of years - each to their own!
For me, Kenneth Lonergan is one the few truly exciting American filmmakers to emerge so far this millennium. You Can Count on Me, Margaret and Manchester by the Sea are all superb, among my favourite recent movies.

Totally agree. Made me really care about the characters. Didn't want it to end. Excellent examination of guilt and grief.
