The behaviors of many characters at the end were so over the top that I’m not sure if they were intentionally funny. At the end, Adrienne appeared to be just swinging her stick at everyone indiscriminately. Her father was equally crazy. He knew that his daughter had escaped to see Nick, and yet he immediately grabbed Nick’s throat when he saw them struggling. Adrienne “saved” Nick by knocking her father unconscious, but then ferociously attacked Nick. What was she thinking?
Also, some characters appeared to have almost superhuman strength and endurance. How did Adrienne manage to lift a girl of her own size up the attic? Nick was none the worse after a fall of some fifteen feet and hit six or seven times by Adrienne with a heavy stick.
The most ridiculous scene was towards the end, in which Nick punched Adrienne. Adrienne literally flew through the air for a distance of something like ten feet, as if she had been hit by a two-ton truck. Had Nick suddenly acquired the strength of the Hulk?

I agree, the last scene was kinda awful. Like the director was trying too hard for a Hitchcock-like ending. But, I actually enjoyed the film, it built up the tension nicely and the whole Lolita thing was titillating, though gratuitous.
