This is one of my favorites now. It's such a gentle, sensitive story, and it always leaves me feeling both hopeful and sad at the end. I love both Elizabeth Hartman and Sidney Poitier in this. And it's funny that Shelley Winters was surprised to win an Oscar for this, since she apparently didn't enjoy playing such a nasty character (so effectively)!

I randomly decided to watch this a few weeks back, and I thought it was great. The scene where Gordon takes Selina grocery shopping was so cute, among many other scenes. I loved how the ending was realistic, while still leaving some hope of a future relationship.

Agreed! The grocery scene is one of my favorites too. I also love how, after Selina has a raging breakdown after her mother and ole pa are so awful to her, she feels hopeful and happy again when mr Faber offers to take her to the park the next day. Knowing she'll see Gordon again, she's at peace.
