I'd be curious to know myself. Are they up to the same caliber?

These are two different pairs of shoes.
I can only say that many of the other films are just improved and extended cut scenes from the video games. They still offer a lot of humor.
They use a completely different style, low bar animation and approach though.
The revolutionary aspect of the two theatrical LEGO films was that they recreated the physics and edgy look of real lego bricks, including the stiffness of the minifigs and scratches on plastic surfaces. I think that adds a lot to the visual comedy.
The direct-to-video films animate minifigs differently, as if they had rubber hose limbs.

My 7 year old loves Lego, and all the movies. They are all actually pretty funny and entertaining. Batman the movie was the first one, I believe. I'd start there and probably go in order of release. They are also consistent with the voice actors. The same actors from Teen Titans voice their characters. Cyborg was in a few of the movies, but the latest one (Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League – Gotham City Breakout) had Starfire and Beastboy in it. Lol they're definitely worth a watch.
