When I saw the title of your post, I immediately assumed this was going to be ugly, and I was right.
I think I'm in the minority, in that I hated Apocalypse. It's the only film I've ever walked out on and asked for a refund. This was bound to be terrible.
I hated Apocalypse also. I enjoyed the previous ones (First Class and Days of Future Past) but since then it's been downhill with the exception of Logan (which I thought was decent) for the uncanny ones. As a fan for decades, it saddens me to see what the X-Men have become in terms of film representation.
I'm not going to see this one, mainly because Jean Grey was never an X-Men character who I liked. I wasn't into the Phoenix story as a kid. Most of the other characters were people I cared about as the central protagonist (Rogue, Mystique, Charles Xavier, Magneto, Logan, even X-23).
I'd consider going to see a movie about X-23 post Logan, about X-Force, X-Factor, or some lesser known characters. The X-Men have been done and over done, done reasonably well and done terribly. Enough of them, it's time to move on to something compelling.
I'm absolutely not going to see Dark Phoenix, because these 'young adult' type actors don't convince me.
I just rewatched First Class and Days of Futures Past (in 3D Blu..that Quicksilver scene in the kitchen..epic in 3D), these movies are SO good...I'd say better then 70% of MCU movies...gotta love how the Disneyheads automatically think Mickey will make the perfect X-movie..gimme a break. I personally HATE what they did with Iron Spider..er...Spider Man...but that's for another forum.
Gonna rewatch Apocalypse in 3D in the next few days as my daughter wants to see Dark Phoenix. Expectations are low, but as long as its an entertaining flick, I'll take it. doesn't have to be better then the best X-movies thus far.

22% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment.
What a pitiful end to the Fox Men.
