Eddie was treated as a freak and a national embarrassment at the time in the UK, even amongst people who weren't particularly patriotic. This film a fair few flaws (mainly around Hugh Jackman's character), but was a complete success in giving a more sympathetic perspective on Eddie's pretty incredible journey and tied it in neatly with Olympic spirit.

Funny to have my opinions successfully challenged by a feel-good puff piece.

Nice of the director to throw a bone to his old Press Gang colleague.
