Then it would seem that the release year is not correct: either on imdb or tmdb.

IMDb & TMDB have different rules for release dates. Here are the original release dates listed on IMDb (it didn't have a regular release in the US until 1999):

Thank you for telling me that. I had seen different release dates and it always made me wonder if i had the correct movie. Sorry for nagging about the release date, since it was my ignorance. :D

You are welcome, TMDB's 'weird' rules for some things confuse me too.
