梅家四姊妹自幼無父無母, 大家姐大香獨力持家. 大香為人頑固守舊, 對其妹管教嚴厲, 致使二香, 三香及細香均對其敬畏. 大香年屆三十尚嫁杏無期, 被眾親戚鄰里視作老姑婆. 而大香規定妹不可爬頭結婚, 故三人決為大香物色對象. 二香的情人甘子濛, 三香的富家子男友王子煥及細香的兩個追求者也積極參予行動. 七小鬼偶遇剛被女友拋棄的曾杜才, 認定他為最佳人選, 遂設計撮合二人. 但大香潑辣霸道, 曾裹足不前, 遂接受眾人相助, 施展各種追求術, 雖吃盡苦頭, 而終以苦肉計贏得美人歸. 二香及三香亦有情人終成眷屬.
