Discuss Ghost in the Shell

Saw this Friday night. I thought it was OK. Probably moved a little slow or needed better dialogue. (Yes I have seen the original movie!) Also found some of the dialog difficult to hear. The visuals were perfect and the story was so so but 2 things didn't makes sense to me...

  1. Hacker had a tattoo of the temple from the visions on his chest which is why Major started listening to him. He says something like do you see it in your visions too? How does he know about the temple when it was actually a small model that was in her house that she remembers from being a child at home?
  2. After she rips her body apart opening the tank how does she get repaired? Everyone who made her is dead. The lab where she was made would surely not be operating after all the shit that went down there. Just to repair that small damage on her arm was a pretty serious affair for the Doctor.

I want to watch this again. I think I'll like it better second time round and maybe pick up on something I missed the first viewing. Can anyone explain these things for me?

The burning building she sees in the glitches was an actual building where she lived with some friends after she ran away from home. It is the same building she goes to when she meets with the hacker (before they are attacked by the tank) and you see another flashback where it is burned down and Motoko is captured. The hacker was also one of the kids living there. That's why he has the same visions.

Hanka Robotics was a big company. They probably had a lot of those labs and other employees that had the same knowledge as the ones that were killed. The Major was new because her entire body was artificial but I would imagine that replacing an arm or a leg with the same technology was pretty common.

I wish that I could answer your question but I feel asleep 3/4 of the way through the film. I really tried to stay awake, but the movie just wasn't engaging enough for me.

Preach, brother! Even the action wasn't that exciting. It was dull and soulless.

You can say that again, very heavy on style over substance. The entire film felt like it was trying to hard to be philosophical and engaging. I mentioned it in another thread, but it kind of reminded me of Blade Runner, or a film wanting to be like Blade Runner - but for teenagers.

Three trolls posting off topic whinings about a movie they didn't like. Why?

So, anyone with an opposing view is a troll to you? What kind of a fairy tale did you drop out of?

Just saying you didn't like it is pretty pointless especially when it has nothing to do with the thread.
