The dragon appearing early in Lang's silent epic is, for the time, an impressive creation, at least visually. Unfortunately, presumably due to the limitations on special effects at the time, the poor thing really doesn't get to do much. Siegfried dives in and (quite quickly and easily) slays the beast which was merely enjoying a drink of water. One feels sorry for the docile and lumbering creature, a dragon which doesn't seem able even to fly.
