I was watching Creed and in the scene where Creed was challenging boxers to hit him with a head shot for his car, they flashed the names and records of the fighters who accepted Creed's challenge. I understand sometimes information needs to be subtitled onscreen like time and place, but flashing the character's name, his boxing record, and his awards, just seems extraneous. When did this trope start appearing in movies? I think I've seen it in some previous movies but can't recall where. I'm not crazy about this as it sort of breaks the fourth wall and takes me right out of the movie.

ATL (2006) is an earlier film that did it.
