Discuss The Great Wall

I just saw it on IMAX, the aspect ratio stayed locked in widescreen aspect ration the whole time and never used the full 1.89:1 to enhance visuals nor the 3D. You can get the same experience from the cheaper Real 3D showings. The IMAX experience was a total ripoff...I despise when movies/theaters do this.

I just got back from seeing it. I thought the movie was very good, the script could have been better, but I LOVED the visual effects. This movie was directed by the man who directed Hero, a great Chinese martial arts film with Jet Lee, Donny Yuen, Maggie Cheung, Tony Leong, and Zhang Ziyi.

BTW, I'm sorry about your bad experience with IMAX.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

I go to IMAX screenings every time it's available for a movie, so I'm now pretty familiar with what a proper IMAX Experience should look like. Most people think it's just a big screen, but it's really about aspect ratio (since not all IMAX theaters have a big screen). True IMAX experiences have a larger aspect ratio at the top and bottom. Some movies use that space to enhance the 3D so that things jump off the screen, others use that space to show a larger viewing area (especially during panoramic shots). However, quite a lot of movies just show a regular widescreen 3D or non-3D movie on an IMAX screen and charge an extra $5.00 over a Real 3D showing or even a standard wide screen showing (for non-3D movies). That's what this movie did which I find unforgivable as they're blatantly ripping off their customers. I wanted to share my experience with others so that they get what they're supposed to pay for. Maybe if more people become more aware and warn others of movies that are trying to con them, then only the studios that treat their customers right are rewarded. I know its a pipe dream, but this practice has to be stopped somehow.

Thanks for your post. You make some excellent points. The only time I went to and movie and went for the 3D option was when I went to see the first Thor movie, and it just wasn't worth the extra money I paid.
