Discuss The Great Wall

Good grief when alien dragons aren't the most unbelievable aspect of the film you have a problem. Why on earth did Matt Damon have an Irish accent? It was so awful and it didn't make any sense. He said at one point he fought for the Spanish but I couldn't remember him saying he was Irish at any point.

Matt Damon was trying to do an Irish accent? I could have sworn that it was Willem DaFoe doing the Irish accent.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

I assume it was an Irish accent. It was barely noticeable. Like every other scene or so. Not sure why it needed to be there.

It's part of what I like to call "Inexplicable Irish Accent Syndrome". This happens in films like Alexander- all ancient Macedonians spoke English with an Irish accent, and the X-Men reboot movies-In the last 30 minutes of First Class, Magento stops talking with a slight German accent and goes into a full blown Irish one.

Now I know that Colin Farrell and Michael Fassbender are from Ireland, but I've heard them do other types of accents pretty well, so it can't be from a lack of ability.

I'm watching The Great Wall right now, and Matt Damon's accent, while generic Irish, isn't that bad at all. If you want to hear an absolutely horrible Irish accent, watch the episodes of Angel when David Boreanaz's accent (boy when I learned that Angel was originally an Irish guy named Liam, was I shocked!) is, well, BAD!!!!!
