What is the significance of the apple?
From the story of Adam and Eve where it symbolizes the forbidden fruit, the sin, to Snow White and the poison apple, it seems to be something to avoid if you want to keep on living.
Still, also knowing that "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", this can all be quite confusing to some

Some have theorized the film is pro feminism? That the witch actually liberated the young girl from an oppressive religious patriarchy. Maybe even take the start of the film literally. The taking of the baby and killing it... maybe a subtle pro choice message? The women being naked and rising signifies their sexual liberation.
Idk, I didn't buy it cuz of the death and mayhem created. So I take the apple to be a bad sign. In Genesis, by eating the apple Adam and Eve also doomed themselves to death.

I'd say it symbolized Caleb partaking of the forbidden fruit that the devil offered to him (the woman/witch in the forest). Worked out great for him although I think he came to redemption before he died.

Plus, Caleb's own sin/shame involved lying about collecting apples.
