This is the third film in Universal's Frankenstein films franchise. While nowhere near as famous as the first or second entries, it's nonetheless highly regarded and, by some, considered the best.
Decidedly unusual - in fact downright strange - stark, quite expressionistic set design for Castle Frankenstein's both exterior and interior. I personally am not keen on the look, though am fine with it.
Definitely a well made, well cast, and well done classic frighter, featuring some memorable performances. Bela Lugosi, as vindictive, sinister Ygor, is the prime standout, though also Basil Rathbone, as the ever-increasingly desperate baron, and Lionel Atwill, as the prosthesis-wearing one-armed police inspector, are excellent.

Is that how Mel Brooks got the character in Young Frankenstein?? I always wondered since that character wasn't in the original 1931 Frankenstein, and yet he was so bizarre I knew he had to be a parody of someone. That alone makes me want to watch this flick... for the wrong reasons but hey, watching is watching!

Indeed, this movie's Inspector Krogh character, and how Lionel Atwill portrays him, is precisely who the Young Frankenstein police inspector character is spot-on comically parodying. Also certain "inside" jokes and punch lines that are in YF were inspired by this movie, for example the "big knockers" remarks. lol
I think you'd enjoy this classic!
