Discuss Power Rangers

Pacific Rim even as an unknown entity should have attracted a larger set of eyeballs. The sequel to Pacific Rim is months removed from Power Rangers but the appeal should be about equal. Why is it that Power Rangers will succeed but Pacific Rim can't crack that audience acceptance barrier?

I guess that a whole generation grew up on the Power Rangers tv-series. While Pacific Rim is a completely new story with only one movie to it's name.

And yet all of the New Age elements were there (in my observation) that should have attracted the Power Ranger fans to Pacific Rim. I also think that Pacific Rim was an homage and a love letter to Japanese mecha anime movies, manga and that audience also barely supported Pacific Rim. Probably because it wasn't made in Japan? It remains to be seen if the WW Box office delivers for Power Rangers which I think wont be Transformers level but I think it will be above PR.

Can I pick neither?

I felt the original Pacific Rim was boring and repetitive. I really didn't care when or how the good guys won, only that I knew that they would. The rest of it was just a bunch of posing and CG robots pounding on CG monsters in a CG environment with CG clouds, CG water, and CG laser beams. Also, the lack of purpose that Del Toro gave Idris Elba was criminal; HE, not Hunnam, should have been the star of the movie. A sequel written by the collective talents that brought you Spartacus and The Maze Runner, where Del Toro is only the producer, and that doesn't even have the star of the first movie is going to be a Bomb. (Notice that I used a capital "B".)

My kids used to watch the Power Rangers and, I'm sorry, I just can't take the mix of Ultraman + Voltron very seriously. The movie looks so cheesy my lactose intolerance kicked in midway through the trailer and I broke wind so hard I knocked my corgi over.

Of course you can and should pick neither because clearly the product wasn't made for you nor are you the intended audience. Power Rangers, Godzilla, Gamera and their ilk weren't CG robots, or CG Monsters in a CG environment, etc but they had their following. Stop Motion, miniature Models, actors in suits or makeup as well as CG all do the exact same thing and that is deliver a fantasy element to a story.

I felt like the first Pacific Rim movie failed on many levels, and bored the crap out of me. Other than Power Rangers being a cheesy nostalgia thing for me, it was fun and had some heart, unlike Pacific Rim.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Pacific Rim is underrated. Some of the characters come off bland and so does the storytelling but much like Godzilla and Kong, I think it offers really well-shot and beautifully put together action sequences. I'd actually like to pop in the DVD soon and check it out again sometime soon.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. http://youtu.be/Nmw_RGJZJhg

Power Rangers is a well known franchise and tbh, Pacific Rim sucked. Literally Charlie Day was the only bright spot in that movie. And it's a movie about robots vs monsters....

Well im going with Pacific Rim. For one i was way too old by the time Power Rangers came out to have any childhood nostalgia for it. Too me it was just a silly show my brother watched. And if i did bother watching the 90's Power Rangers again. It be more for laughs than anything else. And while i enjoy this movie then i though it was. And no neither have great stories behind them. But I enjoyed Pacific Rim better. I think that Pacific Rim was better directed, fight were better executed and was better paced all around. I also i feel like Pacific Rim was better at keeping a consistent tone. Its all Serious in the Power Rangers movie. Until they put on the suits and then its starts feeling like a silly power rangers episode.
