Black Widow will be directed by a woman, Shang Chi by an Asian American. It's cute that Marvel are making an effort for "diversity" behind the camera as well as on screen, but I'm worried that by making shortlists based upon skin colour or gender rather than talent, it's going to hurt the quality of Marvel films. Ryan Cooglar happens to have the directing chops as well as a passion for the comic books, but as Captain Marvel showed, choosing based upon identity politics rather than talent is going to hurt your films.
