It introduces a character who will likely be a big part of Endgame (as if it wasn't already character heavy). The after credits scenes even show what's like to be a scene from Endgame. And presumably that new tesseract as well though I don't see how.

ITS SET IN THE 90S.ITS NOT 100% NECESSARY,HOWEVER IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO KNOW THE CHARACTER AND BACKSTORY BEFORE SHE JUST SHOWS UP IN ENDGAME.

Again thanks.. Most of the reviews seem to be : "well it's all right, I guess". That does not sing to me. I'll save my movie money for Alita and SHAZAM.

It's not a 'new' tesseract, it is the original tesseract, the same as the one in 'Captain America' and the first Avengers movie, the one which contains the Space Stone which Thanos got from Loki at the beginning of Infinity War. Remember this takes place in 1995, between 'Captain America' and 'The Avengers'. it finally explains how SHIELD got the tesseract in the first place.
