Discuss Captain Marvel

Is it just me or is this movie starting to look terrible?

I love Marvel, I've seen nearly all of their last 10 movies or so in theaters, but I am getting a really bad feeling about Captain Marvel. They are really leaning into this "strong female character" virtue signaling and that's always a bad sign as evidenced by Ghostbusters, it tells me they can't sell the movie on just being good, they have to try and imply if you don't see it or aren't excited about it you must hate women. The images I've seen look blah and Brie Larson just does not seem like a good fit for this role let alone what she's been saying on social media.

Conversely I never got this feeling with the Wonder Woman movie, and of course movies like Atomic Blonde or Mad Max Fury Road weren't sold on female empowerment even though both films had fantastic female characters and could have easily tried to hype that aspect.

There's a new saying "Get Woke Go Broke" which means that whenever a movie/show/book tries to sell you on how it's so pro woman/gay/trans/minority/whatever while not selling the story or characters then it's pretty much confirmed to be trash and no one buys it. I really hope I'm wrong but I fear the MCU is going to fall into this trap and go the way of Disney Star Wars.

So trailer 2 is out. Brie Larson looks like she'd rather be getting needles jammed in her eye than starring in this movie.

I'm just assuming most of the Carol scenes are 1st-2nd act Kree soldier amnesiac Carol. She's more "herself" in the flashbacks and when she regains her memory in the 3rd act (which they can't show in trailers).

This movie will be released soon and I've decided I'm not bothering to see it anymore. Trailers still look generic and Brie Larson can't shut up about how little she thinks of men and virtue signaling, and apparently she needs a butt double because the patriarchy deflated hers so no thank you. I'm sure the critic reviews will be through the roof but I will be watching that audience score.

EVERY WORD YOU TYPED IS HOLLOW.IT ALL COMES FROM INSIDE YOU.YOURE A VERY INSECURE PERSON .

I will most likely skip this one too, and not because it's Captain (Miss) Marvel, because I do like the comic book character from what I've seen of her. I just cannot get invested in another superhero film, because they have frankly been over-saturated in the past few years. I'm a comic book fan, yes, but starting to get fatigued by it truthfully. The last one I was astonished by was Doctor Strange.

I also don't want to watch something that will be full of ham-fisted male bashing in order to satiate the overly sensitive, easily offended women that are so prevalent in today's world.

There's nothing at all wrong with a strong female lead character, but in this day and age it seems like pandering to me. Things should make sense in the story or the fabric of the established universe, not be shoehorned in by someone to push their political views (Last Jedi).

ONCE AGAIN...GONNA SKIP IT CAUSE IT....YOU HAVENT SEEN IT AND YOU ASSUMPTIONS ARE ASSUMPTIONS..YOU SIR ARE WORSE THAN AN EASILY OFFENDED WOMAN.AT LEAST SHE KNOWS WHY SHES OFFENDED;AS OPPOSED TO GUESSING AND SKIPPING RIGHT OFF THE TOP.

This film went from an estimated $160 million opening to $100 million instead, +/-20 million. Which wouldnt be that bad considering Wonder Women made 103.2 million opening, while it was projected for 65 million only. The industry is watching to see if audiences really want female lead superhero films. They want to make sure WW wasnt a fluke. The MCU is very smart thanks to basically making this film a 'must watch' for MCU fans. Since they are incorporating it in with End Game and introducing the Skrull. They are trying to give it every advantage they can. Which makes it even sadder when Brie Larson just cant keep politics out of it. And Marvel had to have gone along with it since she is so vocal about it. And thats where the drop comes from, alienating fans. It worked for Black Panther, but thats because the black community was well organized and dedicated to making BP a cultural phenomenon. The feminist community...not so much. BP political discussion was also mostly positive, this films political discussion is verging on divisive. Basically like Star Wars.

For a female lead blockbuster, the highest opening was Beauty and The Beast with 174.7 Million. Which also had a politically active female lead. But Beauty also had a stronger brand. I believe I heard that the Captain Marvel comic was cancelled 8 times, dont know if thats true. Not to mention Emma Watson has a bigger following compared to Larson. I think if they start to drop the prediction down even more than Marvel should really start to worry. I personally dont support the agenda this film is trying to push, along with Larson, but I am very interested in seeing how it performs. Will the feminists/fans be able to save it? Or will it turn into another Solo? But hey, even if it flops you know we can always blame the misogynist white males. joy

SO SMART AND SO F@#KING DUMB AT THE SAME TIME.ALL THESE WORDS TO DEFINE AND DEFEND A STANCE THAT IS FLAWED AND WRONG FROM THE JUMP.

...Thank you?? But I dont think my stance is flawed, especially considering all thats happened with the Star Wars franchise. Not to mention the $60 million drop. But it is just a prediction, it could over perform just like Black Panther, but I dont think that will happen. Guess we just have to wait and see.

If Marvel wants to make Captain Marvel a must watch, they should release an End Game trailer with Captain Marvel on it. If they do that, Captain Marvel would be guaranteed success. So far only the film/comic geeks know that Captain Marvel is in End Game.

I would just wait until the trailer hits the internet, no need to pay to see it.

The movie itself might be perfectly good and fine, but its main star is a hateful bigot and I will not give her a dime of my money. These people like Brie Larson, the Disney Star Wars people or Gillette need to realize you can't demonize and insult members of your customer base in an attempt to appear "woke" to a potential audience that is less likely to buy your product. You get woke and you go broke.

Noted. Thank you for the insightful feedback. But hit that ignore button on us if you think we are just to dumb and might damage you with our lack of brain cells.
