Discuss Captain Marvel

Is it just me or is this movie starting to look terrible?

I love Marvel, I've seen nearly all of their last 10 movies or so in theaters, but I am getting a really bad feeling about Captain Marvel. They are really leaning into this "strong female character" virtue signaling and that's always a bad sign as evidenced by Ghostbusters, it tells me they can't sell the movie on just being good, they have to try and imply if you don't see it or aren't excited about it you must hate women. The images I've seen look blah and Brie Larson just does not seem like a good fit for this role let alone what she's been saying on social media.

Conversely I never got this feeling with the Wonder Woman movie, and of course movies like Atomic Blonde or Mad Max Fury Road weren't sold on female empowerment even though both films had fantastic female characters and could have easily tried to hype that aspect.

There's a new saying "Get Woke Go Broke" which means that whenever a movie/show/book tries to sell you on how it's so pro woman/gay/trans/minority/whatever while not selling the story or characters then it's pretty much confirmed to be trash and no one buys it. I really hope I'm wrong but I fear the MCU is going to fall into this trap and go the way of Disney Star Wars.

IVE READ PAGES OF CRITIQUES AND WHAT I SEE IS EVERYONE SAYING THIS WORKS AND THIS IS GOOD ETC..BUT THEN SAYING THEY EXPECTED MORE OR IT WASNT AS MEMORABLE AS INFINITY WAR...ITS A SOLO HERO ORIGIN FLICK,IT DOESNT HAVE TO COMPETE WITH THE TEAM UPS AND AS FAR AS ASSBAGS EXPECTATIONS..WELL.THAT SEEMS TO BE THEIR PROBLEM,NOT THE MOVIE.I LIKED IT.ITS NOT THE BEST MARVEL MOVIE BUT IT NEVER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.ITS A SOLID ADDITION TO THE UNIVERSE AS EXPECTED.BRIE WAS GOOD AS WELL AND THE KNOCKS ON HER PERFORMANCE ALL SEEM TO BE DWEEBS WHO COULDNT UNDERSTAND THE PLOT WELL ENOUGH TO JUDGE ANYTHING.

Its a Marvel movie...dont think the plot is very hard to follow. Its panning out just as expected. Most of the critics loved it, cause you know shills. And most of the audience didnt like it much. Kind of like many recent Disney films have been going.

I MEAN HER PERFORMANCE IS STILTED BASED ON HER CHARACTERS UNIQUE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES.IT SEEMS LIKE PEOPLES CRITIQUE OF HER ACTING DOESNT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE PLOT POINTS THAT DICTATE IT.

I havent seen the film and probably wont. But from what I heard people seem to feel like she seems bored/out of place as CM. Even in the flash backs and stuff. So I dont know. It seems like shes not clicking with everyone. Could just be growing pains as a new character story.

Why not watch the film?

Are you afraid you might actually like it and realise all your trolling was silly?

Haha noooooo, I dont think so. I dont want to waste my time watching something I know I wont like or waste money on it. Same with Solo. But hey, seems like its doing well with other people. Also what is the Production Budget on CM anyway? Dosent seem to be a source out there.

I just saw the movie and didn't think it was "woke." No forced "diversity." Just a fun movie.

This ain't Ghostbusters 2016 at all.

Should the title of this topic be changed to "Get Woke, Score a $455 Million Opening Weekend"?

STOP SAYING WOKE.JACKASS

Because Money = Quality.

...and because its success might cause a few of those boys leaving bad reviews before the film's release in the hope that a film that they'd decided to hate would flop might get a real hobby.

$153 million domestic, biggest global lead female film, and 3rd biggest March opening...and basically all thanks to men, 61% actually. After all flack and hate for men from Larson, I guess they dont care. MCU fans are more loyal than Star Wars fans I guess, no matter what a lead says about their gender. Im really interested in seeing what will happen this week. How big of a drop will it have? Will fans go back for another round? Female lead superheros can succeed IF they are associated with a brand they trust/know. Example, Alita is fantastic but is struggling.

Forget the politics of this. Frankly i don't why anybody would look at those trailers and say "Hey i want to watch this lifeless husk try to act for 3 hours." Sure Samuel Jackson looks good those Trailers. But Samuel Jackson looks good in anything. I can only assume that people went to see thing because they think its necessary to see endgame or there mindless fanboys. And im not sure if i want to see endgame. Im afraid they just going to have Captain Marvel come in at the last second and take down thanos. Undercutting any the sacrifics that any of the other characters have made. You know the ones most people care about.

'Despite being the blandest movie ever, Captain Marvel is a lot of things to a lot of people. It's the movie Rotten Tomatoes doesn't want anyone to have an opinion on. The movie dumb, bearded white guys are protesting. The movie other dumb, bearded white guys are white-knighting. The movie Brie Larson doesn't want us to see. The movie that inspired a ton of cheap clickbait articles from terrible online journalists who have no idea how Rotten Tomatoes works. The movie easily manipulated, twitter obsessed weirdos have given a ton of free publicity to, by convincing themselves this corporate product is a feminist cause. The movie that had charities started for it in order for underprivileged little girls to be able to see, which benefits absolutely nobody but Disney. Buy these fuckin poor kids some food instead, you fuckers. It's Captain Marvel! If the movie is a hit, it's because society has become enlightened enough to celebrate a female led action movie. Finally! If the movie is a flop, it's because of toxic online trolls. Finally! No other explanations exist! Eat the multi-billion dollar corporate slop and pretend it's social justice, you weirdos! Thanks for making the world an embarrassing nightmare, everyone!' - RedLetterMedia.

YOUR SPECULATION AND MISPLACED ANGER ARE VERY TELLING OF YOUR CHARACTER AND INTELLECT.

I'm going to cut to the chase: you're a complete and utter insecure abomination of an idiot. When are you crybabies going to learn that just because YOU decide to skip Cap Marvel that others don't have to do the same. If this is what gets you all bitchy then please... For the good of mankind... Slit your throat. Brie said something stupid but it's like you guys want to corner the market on stupid retards thus all your faux outrage.
