I just watched the film so I need a second view for a complete assessment and I might be suffering from Empire Strikes Back syndrome where the cliff hanger-downer "middle film" tends to have a more emotional impact but I don't think so. I felt the dialogue was more clever and snappy in the first film and the action was most definitely better. Not to mention that when it comes to the time travel deus ex machina there is always issues plot-wise. So while I suppose the conclusion is somewhat satisfying I just didn't get the same high as I got from Infinity.
Poor Quill is gonna have to swoon Gamora all over again.

I kind of agree with you here. Also, infinity war is automatically slightly better, just because of no captain marvel. 😆

Captain Marvel in and of itself could be considered a deus ex machina as she saves Stark from certain doom in outer space. Speaking of her shouldn't she had been the one to snap the fingers? Anywho, I guess they wanted to kill off Stark.

FUCK NO! The point of Endgame is to be the swan song of the OG Avengers, to have anyone other than one of the 6 OG Avengers be the one to save the universe would have been unspeakably lame.

Agreed. That's kind of what I thought was going to happen, given this current culture we live in. I was so glad it didn't though.

I am not sure what you mean by that. The current movie/storytelling culture has been much more realistic and willing to kill off its heroes as compared to say old school Hollywood. Old school Hollywood, there is no frickin' way they would have killed off Tony Stark. All the endings had to be puppy dogs and rainbows and everyone always lived happily ever after and bad stuff only happened to the bad guys. Now Hollywood is faced with the dilemma that they have killed off Iron Man, and seeing that are severely creatively bankrupt, come up with some new material. Of course, they have a TREASURE TROVE of stories in the Marvel Universe to pillage, er I mean, use.

Yeah, I was just thinking from a practical sense it probably should have been her. Thor could have survived it too.

Captain Marvel would not have survived the snap either, or would have at least been as badly injured bad Hulk and Thanos were.
Thor night have been able to survive if he were his old self, but there is no way the weak, traumatized Thor who could just barely keep from crying, would be able to do it.
I could go on for a while about why, for story and thematic reasons, it simply had to be Tony, (he started thE MCU, therefore, it is only fitting that he be the one to bring this phase to an end, he started out as a selfish, narcissist playboy, therefore, it only makes sense that his story end with him caring about literally everyone else before himself etc) but ultimately, the biggest reason is that Tony's suit protected him from the stones, as t least until he used them. No one else had that kind of protection, Steve or Clint would been killed the instant they put on the Gauntlet and they never have even performed the snap.

I was actually surprised Tony did not get obliterated to dust when I saw what it did to Hulk. Woulda been a cooler ending I think. He says, "I AM IRON MAN" , snaps his fingers and poof, he's a pile of dust. A bit less dramatic with no Spiderman crying and Pepper sending him off though.

LOL I was just surprised because everyone just GUSHED about how great Endgame was. When I saw it was three hours long I was like, "Oh boy! This is gonna be fun." And then I found myself looking at the clock a few times during the viewing which is always a bad sign. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it by far but I didn't think it was great like Infinity War which was so good I wanted to rewatch almost immediately which is extremely rare for me.

I thought Infinity War was WAY better as well. Whereeas the runtime on IW feels quick due to all the action...EndGame dragged to me at times. The time heist kind of a silly concept (wish they didn't go this route..but meh..what R U gonna do?) and to ME, the worst was Thanos himself...went from a deep villian to a cookie cutter "I'll-destroy-the-Universe" version of himself in EndGame.

They went with the time travel thing because everyone (myself included) was going it was no big deal about Thanos destruction since all they would have to do is get the stones and reverse it. So indeed, what are you gonna do? I also get a twinge of facepalm when Thanos started talking about destroying the universe. It made no sense because he was from the past and never himself achieved his goal. So how can he lament that destroying half of life was not good enough? I honestly did not like his original motivation anyways. It's kinda hard to sell an overpopulation problem in such a vast universe. They should have come up with something better.
But yeah, Infinity War was damn near perfect. Had the right amount of laughs, cries, and awesomeness that makes a great film. In fact, my only criticisms is what I mentioned in the plot. All the action was so good and all of the players like Dr. Strange and Spiderman all got to shine equally. WIsh it had more Hulk though.

Thanos' plan not only made complete sense but it came straight from the comics, it is the plan of the Magus in "The Infinity War" which is the 1992 miniseries which was the sequel to 1991's "Infinity Gauntlet" which is the source for the movie 'Avengets Infinity War"

Actually, it was my understanding that Thanos' plan in the comic book had an incentive that was completely taken out of the films. I think it was he was in love with Death, curiously a female incarnation, and he either was doing her bidding or wanted to impress her. Now THAT actually does make more sense. Men do stupid shit for the poon-tang not excluding murdering half of the universe. But this notion of "I have to destroy half of life in the universe because we are running out of resources" is frankly inane.

"I am Iron Man" was an unnecessary line that actually typifies the corniness that was all over the place in this. I mean, Cap admiring his own ass, that cringeworthy part when the women heroes band together... it was like a different crew made this than the group who did Infinity War.

HA! I gotta admit I did a seriously when I saw the chicks heroes part. What went through my head was, "HOO-RA FOR PUSSY POWER!" .
But overall I thought Infinity War was a much better put together film. THAT film shoulda been three hours. It woulda flew by.
