Doctor Strange is a bit busy with his own thing at the Sanctum to choose to be leader of the Avengers. I'm sure he'd begrudgingly help if asked and will take on a consultant/mentor role, but the Avengers to him would be a side distraction than anything else. I'm going with Rhodes as the leader, as he's got the military officer and tactical background for it already. He's basically Cap and Ironman put together.

Doctor strange assembled the avengers, so he already kind of is the leader.

Why does there have to be an 'Avengers' in the MCU at all? There are lots of superhero teams, from the Defenders to the Fantastic Four. Now that it seems all the Phase 1 Avengers are done, let's just focus on other possible team-ups. The Marvel Universe is huge and diverse, let's explore other corners of Marvel's 60-year history, introducing characters that have never before been seen in live action.

I remember back in the '90s there was a joke issue published by Marvel which introduced the 'new' line up for the Fantastic Four: Spider-Man, Wolverine, The Punisher and Ghost Rider. The joke, of course, was that these 4 characters were dominating Marvel comics at the time, each of them guest starring half a dozen titles every month, not to mention their own titles.

Everyone wants (and has come to expect) another event film to top off Phase 4. Marvel hasn't announced any plans yet for X-Men and Fantastic 4 yet, and Feige has been downplaying the possibility recently (makes most think they will be a phase 5 thing).

So what else? Secret Wars? Not likely until after X-Men and FF4.

A-Force? More likely, but does anyone really want that to be the big event film?

Eternals? Its already stated to be an origin prequel, but how are they gonna make that pay off?

Wasn't A-Force cancelled because of poor sales?

Still doesn't mean Disney isn't considering it. Remember Big Hero 6 comics never took off until the Disney movie, and now IDW publishes it instead of Marvel.

Does there need to be a big Phase 4 'event'? Ever since the first 'Avengers' movie in 2012, the trend has been to try to end each phase with a bigger event than the last one. The first Avengers was a huge event, for its time, the first time all the superheroes introduced so far meet and team up. Then phase 2 ended with a bigger event, the Age of Ultron, which introduced even more superheroes, finally, phase 3 closes with Endgame, which is the biggest event ever, indeed I cannot even imagine how an event could possibly be bigger. Maybe now, after they've had the ultimate event, the focus should not be on trying to make bigger and bigger events, but on smaller, more personal stories.

If Disney wants to keep an audience and keep its shareholders happy it does. Marvel also has to show they can continue to make a lot of money, and a big reason they do as well as they do is the audience anticipation for the next big event film. The next event doesn't have to be as huge as Infinity War or Endgame (it could just be an invasion of time travelers, ala Kang the Conquerer), but hint at something even bigger to come down the line. Also they've been stated they may build up to Secret Wars (which is even bigger than the Infinity Saga as it's every hero vs every villain). The Russos themselves also have stated they will return if they do that.

Big event of phase 4 is probably gonna be Young Avengers with cassie lang, spider man and shang chi and some others

Not for nothing, but despite EndGame breaking records and will probably be the biggest grosser of all time...the movie had a LOT of moving parts, not to mention insane salaries, etc...it was the BIGGEST movie yet and the ending to many storylines and character arcs. If Disney wants to continue its plan for world domination they'll likely go "smaller"...focus on its upcoming Phase of solo projects, new characters and a few sequels they are guaranteed hits (Ant Man 3, Doctor Strange 2, Guardians 3)..I don't see why an "event" is required to close out a phase..the MCU will likely get a very soft reboot!

Now Phase 5 on the other hand...they can now incooperate Mutants, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool and many others...The Russo's have already stated they are interested in a 'Secret Wars'...so they'll likely go back to basics, build up a new MCU & rinse & repeat the success of the first 22 movies!
