They didn't need to transfer the stones when they already had the gauntlet.
The gauntlet that was fucked up with rust after Thanos used it you mean?
He's referring to the game of 'hot potato' they were playing with the gauntlet before Thanos grabbed it from them. He is apparently suggesting that someone there could have overpowered Thanos long enough to wear and use the Gauntlet, a plan that obviously wouldn't work because overpowering Thanos was tried twice, once on Titan and again on Wakanda, and failed both times. That gauntlet was made from the same nanites (or nanobots or whatever it was Tony called them) that Tony's suit was made of, that is why Tony was able to swipe the gems from the gauntlet without Thanos noticing.
Why would they have to overpower Thanos when they already have the Gauntlet???
I already explained this, because the moment Thanos saw that someone had the gauntlet, he would immediately 'instakill' that person before they had a chance to put the gauntlet on. Thanos, like Darkseid, can shoot beams out of his eyes that 'instakill' anyone. They knew this, and that was why when one of the heroes had the gauntlet, they never held on to it for long, instead they quickly found someone else, and passed it on, they knew it was not a good idea to hold the gauntlet long enough to become the object of Thanos' wrath.

Insta what? Thanos never shot beams out of his eyes in the version lol.
Hawkeye already had the Gauntlet when he was underground. They only saw that he had it when he ran onto the battlefield with it. He had several minutes at least to put on the gauntlet and snap Thanos and his armies out of existence.

And then Hawkeye would have died from the radiation.
What bugs me is that Iron Man wielding the gauntlet was supposed to be the only way they could win out of 14 million possiblities, yet Hawkeye, Black Panther, Peter Parker and Captain Marvel all had the gauntlet in their possesion. So any of them could have done it. Hawkeye was already willing to die for the soulstone, so he would have sacrificed himself. Captain Marvel would have survived using it.
my impression was that only someone supremely powerful or in an armour like tony could even put the gauntlet on without it killing them, much less to the snap. i agree that captain marvel could have snapped it, but i don't think the audience would have accepted such a new character doing it.
i also agree that this film could have been better written, but it is still a fine piece of cinema.
So? Tony died. Doctor Strange said it was the only way.
I think the writers just wanted it to be sensational and dramatic and a team effort to have all the heroes juggle the stones for it to be Tony Stark the father of the MCU land the final nail in Thanos's coffin. If Hawkeye had done it it would've been really anticlimactic, you've watched these types of movies before you should know how they work by now.
playing it for laughs was a bit of a cop out imo, to keep the film family friendly.
Yes, because why should an MCU film be R rated so the kids can't see it?
showing someone as having a drink problem and not having it be a laughing matter does not make the film unsuitable for children. having scenes of decapitation and throat cutting is might do though, and yet this film is a 12a in the UK.

And sometimes what seems or is logical isn't always interesting to the cinema goers watching the movie. Yeah, Hawkeye could've snapped his fingers but it wouldn't have been climactic as with all blockbusters.
If you set up "1 in 14 million", you could do a bit better than "it looks cool when Tony does it". Doctor strange thought he was asking "how many did we win in a crowd pleasing way". It would work then.

How come Tony had enough time to say "I................am..............................Iron man" when he was about 10 metres from Thanos?
