It had another effect on him, messing him up really bad. Poor guy turned blue and pale. I have no clue where the Avenger saga is heading honestly. I want another installment in the Avengers line and everyone who has seen it will know why. We all love happy endings.
I'm with @A to Z in thinking that it did burn out his arm the same as it did with Hulk, but it also did much more damage to Tony's human body, including killing him, whereas Hulk could absorb all the radiation with much less damage.

Plus, the Hulk has a healing factor like Wolverine, so he can heal from any damage done to him.
