Discuss Aquaman

Sometimes a very beautiful trainwreck but terrible none the less. Totally “borrowed” some visual cues from Ragnarok (slo-mo dove off the boat at the Trenches..etc) horrible dialog where you can speak it in your head before the actors do. Bad choices in music over all. I know 70/80’s retro synth has been popular in movies for a minute now but it was so out of place throughout the movie. I love Willem Defoe but felt he was poorly cast in this movie. Hell, he’ll always be the Green Goblin when it comes to CBM’s.

Some issues..He’s strong enough to lift a massive sub out of the water but Manta can go toe to toe with him just because he has some Atlantean armor? And Manta survives a blast and a fall that would destroy the human body no matter the armor...and they have the gall to show him after the credits lying in bed totally fine but with a single bandage on his head!! I feel for Mamoa. He seems like a very nice dude and he”s extremely likable but the guy cannot act worth a damn. He’s a good physical actor, but talking is not his forte...unless it’s in the language of the horse people..lol

This Iteration of Aquaman is good in small doses in an ensemble movie but as a stand alone it just falls flat and this movie feels very, very long.

Well, I had no interest in seeing it at all before. Now, I really won't bother. Honestly, I am getting a bit tired of the comic book films. I liked some of the recent Marvel stuff, but some of those films even wore thin on me at times.

Yes, agree with all your points, particularly noting how strong he was lifting a sub and then meekly took out some bad guys within it. Although I thought maybe it is because he's stronger underwater?

What put me off from the beginning though was the crappy CGI making the dad actor look young. I wish they'd stop doing this, for me it will always looks fake. Just use a younger actor, or heavy make up. I wasn't sure if Nicole Kidman had the same CGI treatment or whether she just had too much plastic surgery. I will, however, admit the last battle scene was quite something.

Question: I'm not familiar with the mythos of Aquaman but why can some (like Mera) breathe on land while most can't? I get with Arthur he was half but Orm seems to alternate being able to and then not...
