Michael Jakobsen (Ove Sprogøe) er den pæne mand, der bliver fyret fra sit kontorchefjob på grund af en fusion af hans firma. Hans verden bryder fuldstændig sammen. Han tør ikke fortælle sin kone (Bibi Andersson) det. Samtidig har han mistanke om, at hans kone er ham utro. Han overvejer flere forskellige desperate handlinger, såsom at gasse hele familien og begå selvmord.

A man is fired from his office job and at the same time he has a suspicion that his wife is cheating on him. The movie follows the desperate and dramatic reactions that the man makes up in his mind.
