I just caught this on HBO and was wonderfully surprised by it. Previously I had not chosen to watch it because the title just turned me off, I don't know why?
Great work from Tom Hanks as usual.

The definition of "Spy" depends on who/what rubber stamps the indictment. As I recall, in Soviet bloc and satellite nations, having in hand/publishing "economic data" is Spying, because such data is a State Secret. (Plus, Mr. Pryor had a CAMERA on him!) So, going by definitions of the time, Fredric Pryor was a SPY from the West. (Francis Gary Powers was flying a U-2 over Soviet territory and photographing military installations, which is Spying.) As for Hollyweird and Frederic Pryor, here's what he had to say about the movie: https://www.swarthmore.edu/news-events/economist-frederic-pryor-recounts-life-a-spy

Thanks for the link to the Pryor interview. He says he visited Vogel several times later. Surely he didn't return to East Germany!? I'm quite happy with the artistic licence taken by the writers, it's not like they completely warped reality, like saying the Engima code was cracked by America.

I assume one of the filmmakers involved is a Robin Trower fan. https://vimeo.com/248104138
