I'm not usually into magical realism in movies but I really liked this.
Despite being centred around a child it is a mature movie made for grown ups. A good antidote to the infantilised blockbuster movies that plague our cinemas.
When my friends who are in their late 20s and 30s mention the lego movies, stranger things or such, I'll point them to this...
Also, Sarah Gadon is perfectly cast for this movie... so good

Yes she is. The woman who likes being pitied more than being loved. A very good portrayal of munchausen by proxy.
Also, the little boy! Such a strange little fellow, but adorable!
I just couldn't quite get over him killing his hamsters though. Seemed like there would need to be something much more wrong with him, way beyond his traumatic childhood to do it.

Agreed. I really enjoyed this. I don't know why RT gives it has such a bad score. Thought the acting was all pretty good and even managed to tug at the heart strings a little at the end too!
Even though it was pretty obvious what the major twist was going to be fairly quickly I liked how they slowly revealed the little details that explained earlier actions. It really completed the whole movie and it felt like nothing happened without a reason.

That was to do with his thinking there is 'The Right of Disposal' which he thinks is natural because he thinks his time is up too. Maybe based on him being told he has 9 lives and used 1 up every year.
I like how he thinks C-Sections are done. The doctor with the saw. LOL.
