Discuss Pete's Dragon

I am sad this film did not encounter the success it deserved. It's heart was in the right place and I personally found it very entertaining. I am disappointed that Disney did not fell it was necessary to release the 3D version of the film on home video especially considering they release inferior movies in 3d in the Past (Mars needs mum etc..)

I think (and in my case also hope) that it's because the 3D phase is finally coming to a halt (unless the new Avatar films manage to kick start a new wave). Manufacturers are stopping providing the TVs https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/shambling-corpse-of-3d-tv-finally-falls-down-dead/ and this article (from 2014!) chronicles dwindling film production numbers and home viewing sales https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2014/10/09/the-trouble-with-3d-how-hollywood-and-the-av-industry-slaughtered-their-own-cash-cow/#5caf273c58cd . Our local cinema rarely bothers with 3D showings apart from the real AAA films. Also (though the data I found was up to 2014 for the UK) DVDs are still selling more than 7 times the units of Blu.

I don't think it's disdain for the film on Disney's part; just that it wasn't economically viable to bother with a 3D release. That said, I found a German site purporting to do 3D copies.

Loved the film, and though I do have a BR player (but not a 3D TV) I got it on DVD.

I really love the film too! It is sad it did not get the public attention :( For 3D I do not know, personally I do not watch 3D films through the TV anymore..I use the PSVR as it feels like I am watching a film in 3D Imax lol (And now with virtual sound via Ps4 latest update)

3D movies are still being release on Blu-ray. But Disney has been slacking off on its 3D releases for a pretty long time now. Even though they still release them in Europe. And yeah tv manufactures are abandoning 3D. Which is stupid. Because with 4K there no reason to use those stupid battery operated active 3D Glasses. They could just use those Passive 3D Glass the theaters use. And i don't know about the theaters you go to. But mine still show 3D Movies all the time and i the weekend its usually packed. I admit i don't watch 3D movies that often. But its nice to have the option.
